Tmuell Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 New to building boxes, going to be building a box for 4 ,6x8 speakers for shop system. Planning on fiberglassing the inside corners of box to strengthen it a bit, but I have never worked with fiberglass before, and my really sure what to use. Box will be made of 3/4" MDF and was also wondering if anybody had any insight as to how big I should make the box for 4, 6x8 powerbass 2xl speakers, thanks
DylanBunch Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 i dont think you need reinforcement for door speakers.... i have a speaker tower me and my friend made with 4 rockford 6x8s and 2 rockford 6x9s and it doesnt flex at all or anything 2006 Ford Explorer 2 Team AA/Sundown 15s 6th order Ct Sounds 7k 4 PRV Mr500 8s Rockford p1000-2 Team Subsonic Lows

Tmuell Posted August 24, 2013 Author Report Posted August 24, 2013 Mainly wantin to glass it because the corners will all be squared off and screws and glue won't be the best method to hold them together even though I will be doing that
jarrius Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Why would wood glue not be good for the corners? I used tight bond 2 and finishing nails for my box and it holds together fine. Glue should be good 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
TeamHT Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Glue won't be the best method to holding the box together? What are you talking about Willis Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
DylanBunch Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 dude mine isnt even glued lol i think youre over thinking this 2006 Ford Explorer 2 Team AA/Sundown 15s 6th order Ct Sounds 7k 4 PRV Mr500 8s Rockford p1000-2 Team Subsonic Lows
john253a Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 A hand full of screw Some wood glue And silicon Glue and screw the box together Cut out your holes Silicon the edges through the speaker holes Bam Speaker tower made
john253a Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Now if you want to do a bit more then the normal sealed tower You have approx 150sq" of cone area Close to the same as 2x 10" or a bit less then 1x 15" So you could build the box between 2-3cuft net porter at around 40
SnowDrifter Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 You dont need any reinforcing for those. It's not like it will break anything but it's a waste of material. In all honesty you could build a box out of particle board and hot glue for them and it will be strong enough lol ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
