Normal for an impact gun to do this?

Recommended Posts

How would I check? I opened the valve at the bottom of the compressor. Nothing but air came out. No water is coming out the gun's exhaust either

see the reason it drop slow is because the scfm is 4 if it was 6 or 7 scfm if will drop like crazy thats the reason you get a 6 or 7 scfm the tank is 80 gallons cause it to drop slower. scfm is the amount of air comes out the hose to the impact if you know a mechanic shop take the tool their let them impact something and it will work like a charm.

So if I'm reading this right: You are telling me that the 4cfm rating from the compressor is based on how much air it can put out? Not the pump's rating?

Yeah I'm done with air tools. I'm not getting an 80 gallon $1000 compressor + re-wiring the house to power a $30 impact gun for the occasional project. This is stupid.

Any way to upgrade it so it will put out 6-7 cfm or am I SOL?

read this on a powermate website: Single tool use: If a 1/2" impact wrench requires 5.0 CFM @ 90 PSI, then the compressor should deliver between 6.25 - 7.5 CFM @ 90 PSI.

website: http://www.powermate.com/air_compressors/buying_guide.php its just a buying guide. I never knew shit about this cfm thing. ive never ever had a problem before with just plugging the shit in and zipping away.

Hmmm... I guess there is more to this than meets the eye. Crap....

from my understanding cfm is a measurement of how fast your pump puts air back into the tank. not anything to do with what comes out?
