Alternator squeak

So I've had this ho alt in for a bit now. And this really only happens when the car first starts up or has been sitting. But when you start it, it does a quick squeal. Over time it has become a tad bit louder and lasts just a tad bit longer each time. Is my belt to tight? To lose? Any help would be nice, would hate for this thing to dump on me.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

Anytime I've ever had that problem on any of my vehicles, it has always been an idler pully. It was always the bearing on the pully and when it's cold or wet it would squeak. The squeak always developed after a I would drive through a muddy puddle :pardon: good luck dude.

Same deal with me.

Once the 10k was playing, it took two days to develop a sqweal only at start up.

The , got worse and worse. And lasted longer and longer. Untill finally, it was constant.

Loose belt. Spring tensioner was at full running. 1/2" off.

Got a shorter belt, fought it for about 8 beers. But, got it on.. And now, on, and at load I have over a inch of travel left on the tensioner.

(tell you what, doing that alone, was ZERO fun)

Just did this shit last weekend. Squeel like a mofo. Belt was partially off. Went ahead and replaced the tensioner and now no piggies under my hood.

I guess I should have read the actual post a little better. I saw the title that said "squeak" and while reading the post I sub consciously replaced the word "squeal" with "squeak" lol. If it is a squeal then it is most likely the belt slipping and I would go with Kyle's advice.

I've had a few idler pulleys "squeak" before and was caused by bad/dirty bearings. Sorry for the confusion :pardon:

Good Year belt is what you need !

sometimes Loud is NOT pretty

Sounds like its safe to go ahead and bend that ass over.

Same issue bud, installed a mechman alternator, I did not replace the belt bc to me it didn't seem bad, it squeaked and squeeled a few times, did not do it at all yesterday. Today it's raining and shit, I was at a red light and it made that noise and voltage was at 13.3 light turned green and noise stopped voltage back up. Went to work out, when I went to leave it did it again but in reverse and voltage was at 12.6

So I assume I have a bad belt, I know when I installed my HO alt, I pulled up on the belt to put it on the pulley and it went on, seemed easy or should of it not been? But I think you need a new belt

Thanks for all the input guys. I am going to ask my neighbor to check if I have enough tension. He told me a inch is good, that seems like what I have. I do know that I have developed a low hum that seems to come from the spot where the main pulley set up is on the engine. Going to try replacing the belt and see how that helps. Maybe yeild some results.
