Hi guys,

I've been installing my systems in the past by myself. However they were a little messy and with my bmw i want a clean install so i decided i'd take it to a shop. Before I go tho, I'd like to have a clear idea of what i want, which is deep clean bass. I have two 12 inch dc lvl 4's. Previously I've had ported boxes, which i liked. But i like the look of the three chamber like

however, I will go with whichever sounds better.. any thoughts or opinions people?

Also i see from the work that the shop does, that it seems like they lean more towards the three chamber which is why i looked at those two options

The one you posted up there is a 4th order bandpass. Except that there are 2 different sealed sections instead of one like you normally see. I can't speak on ported vs. 4th order as I haven't done one yet, but maybe there are some others who will share their thoughts

Edit: The 4th order bandpass kinda acts like a sealed and a ported box in 1, in a sense. You get the lows from the sealed section, and then the ported section is tuned higher (50hz or so for example) to give you your higher bass

You need a lot of space for that box so maybe it won't fit and a front stage that can play the deeper mid bass for better results, if it sounds nice or not it depends on how is setup, the high ratio ones are aimed towards output, who knows if you will like that, really peaky around tuning frequency, better get a demo from the shop.

for SQ you'll likely want a nice sealed box to keep it tight and punchy. I'd personally go with the ported though... very nice tradr off between spl and sq. the 4th order bandpass idea... well I'd say its probably not SQ friendly. stick with ported.

I think i'll definitely need to hear a demo. I may just stick with the ported tho. I'm trying to find a video but no one seems to have any labeled 4th order

you may want to sit back and learn a bit more more before giving wrong or incorrect info,

the specs of the subs will determine weather the sub will perform better in sealed or ported

so a high quality "sq known" sub in the wrong style box will not reproduce the quality required weather it be sealed or ported

yes a sealed box with a sub suited for seal

would be a easy sub to install and get right in an "sq" install

where as a ported box if you tune too high or too low you will lose the freq range and get higher or lower db's at different freq, where as your after a flater response

i am no expert on sq, as my style of sq v's others is very different,

i like to use quality equipment and keep it very simply, 1 or 2 subs, 1 speaker set per seat in car, and under 1500rms on the entire system

so a little update on this, i passed by the shop while I was at work, but wasn't able to stay long. I spoke to the owner who told me they generally do 4th order bandpass boxes.. i told him I have 2 DC 12's and he told me that he'd recommend only using one in the 4th order that they build because the boxes are big and if they accommodate for 2, they would need to use the whole trunk... I'm not sure how i feel about this because i like 2 12's!! what do you guys think?
