Depends on the length of half the run of the circuit.

This should get you in the ballpark

Just FYI this chart is for 12v DC current. Not AC

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

Idk what he means. That 12 was just to go from inches to feet

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

this... not sure what his math was up to.... lol....

The chart above tells you what gauge wire to use.

You get how many amps are being given to the driver.

Then measure how long the run from the positive to negative speaker terminal is. Then half that number.

For example take my design, the total wire run will be 80".

80/2=40

40/12= 3.33'

My amplifier is fused for 90 amps so I know it shouldn't be putting out much more than that, but to be on the safe side lets wire for 100 amps.

100 is equal to 1200 watts.

So we need to find 100amps and 3.33 feet on the chart.

Found it and I need 8 AWG wire for that long of a run.

He asked about speaker wire.

Amp is fused at 90? That really is not relevant to the speaker wire. The input voltage is set at 12 volts, the output voltage can be much higher, meaning the output current can be much lower than the input current.

If you have 1000 watts, is it at 1 ohm, 2 ohms, 4 ohms?

Dual voice coil? Going to run wire to each voice coil, or jumper between coils?

How far is the amp from the sub?

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

Ahhhh.

Here's the thing: He calculated his wire needs based on the power input for the amplifier, not the power output. No need for 8ga wire for a 1200 watt amp. Especially for 3 and a half feet.

Ohms law says this:

Power = V^2/R

So V=sqrt(P*R)

V = sqrt(1000*1)

V=32

AND current - I=V/R

Since R is 1, I is also 32.

So that means 32 amps on the output, assuming no rise and no clipping. That chart says to use 14ga.

Wikipedia states that the ampacity for a 12ga wire with 90 degree insulation is 30 amps. I'm rounding down from 31.6 in my recommendation to use 12ga. You'll want thicker if you are using CCA wire.

amp is maybe 3' from my box if that,i will be running it at 1ohm,its a dual 2 ohm single woofer,jumped between coils.
