ThwopKing Posted October 9, 2013 Author Report Posted October 9, 2013 My stock alt is 160a and he refused because he said it would crwate to much resistance and end up hirting power delivery more than it helped. He did recommend another battery and upgading the alt but just said right nkw the big 3 wasn't worth it. He does do more sq systems and I consider him a friend and not just some guy who installs. He used to work for a semi local shop but quit due to the owner not running it right. He went independent and the same shop still calls him to fix the installs their current installers screw up lol. 2012 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition-Singer 240A Alt, Odyssey Battery,Pioneer AVH-2550NEX head-unit, Pioneer GM-DX874 powering Kicker CSS67 front-CSC5 rear, and Memphis PR 1.1000 powering 12in SSA ICON in G.P. ported box. 2003 Tahoe-320A Alt, Odyssey Batt,2 Resilient Sounds Gold 15's sealed powered by Crescendo BC2000D, Turbulent Designs Ported box AVH601EX head unit and Pioneer 3ways in all doors.

rockFord_Expedition Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 SQ or SPL, no matter what you have in mind, solid electrical is the foundation for any reliable system. and yes, if someone calls them self any kind of car audio installer, and they don't know the fundamentals of DC electrical systems, then they have much to learn. I mean a 16yr old kid throwing his first amp, and 2 12's in a pre fab box in his first car has an excuse for not knowing this stuff. However to label yourself as a guru or someone that knows their stuff, and be in the game for over a decade, no excuse for not being savvy in this area. Period. I never used the word hack, you did, but I will say they don't "know their shit". Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire

The big 3 does not crwate, or create to much, or too much resistance. Not does it hurt, or hirt power delivery. It does the opposite. It creates a better return path to your alternator for one, which eliminates a huge bottleneck in most stock electrical set ups. Your guy probably also thinks the big 3 only involves alt to battery +, battery to frame and engine block to frame. Shit I better not assume anything, but I will finish my opinion by saying flat out, he is wrong, do the Big 3 yourself. Your car will thank you. ThwopKing Posted October 9, 2013 Author Report Posted October 9, 2013 Sorry about the misspelling. ..I had two strippers talking my ear off. Thanks for all the help guys, after reading a lot of this I've decided to go ahead and do the big 3. Now to cap or not to cap..... after some of the other things I've read it may not even be worth it lol 2012 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition-Singer 240A Alt, Odyssey Battery,Pioneer AVH-2550NEX head-unit, Pioneer GM-DX874 powering Kicker CSS67 front-CSC5 rear, and Memphis PR 1.1000 powering 12in SSA ICON in G.P. ported box. 2003 Tahoe-320A Alt, Odyssey Batt,2 Resilient Sounds Gold 15's sealed powered by Crescendo BC2000D, Turbulent Designs Ported box AVH601EX head unit and Pioneer 3ways in all doors.

Now to cap or not to cap..... after some of the other things I've read it may not even be worth it lol It is... if you #1-have the funds and #2-the right cap. There are plenty of caps out there and some/most are bullshit. If you get a legit one, it'll help. Tony I believe it was, did a test showing that even on a small system, a cap will help. It's on this site somewhere... Sheena = pedobear
TeamHT Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 Not to derail this thread but when did JP know anything about car audio? I'm not hating on him for paying for his systems, but that's hardly anyone I would ever listen when it comes to car audio. His expertise basically stops at turn knob right for my volume and left for less. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
pioneerforlife Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 In my opinion, I wouldn't bother with a cap. instead I would go with a second battery. you will get a lot more out of a second battery than you would out of a cap. I am running about 3,000 watts on stock alt, big 3, and a second battery and I never drop below 12.7, and I hop right back up to 14.4 when the bass lets up. I wouldn't bother getting a high output alt either considering you are only running about 800 watts. so I would do the big 3 and get a second battery, and see how that helps. 2007 Ford Focus SES Hatchback Pioneer HU 4 Digital Designs 9515i's in a B pillar. 2 Soundstream XXX 15K's (running at 16 volts) Soundstream Mids/Highs in custom door panels (getting rebuilt soon) Soundstream TA2.160 and TA2.400 Sky High and KNU wiring 3 Banks of Maxwell caps Winston Lithium (not a fan) Bump4Life 250 Amp Alt. aka USAlternators Soundstream Focus and Avenger Build Log Instagram @p4linnovation YouTube: Team Blowin Loud
