Popwarhomie Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Mine Fuse within 8" from battery to alt. Fuse 8" from front battery to back Fuse 8" from rear bat to front. Read fuse as circuit breaker though. I prefer breakers over fuses. 2010 Focus coupe- 8 12" wall. 157.5@46hz 2016 Focus ST - SQ build.
MrSkippyJ Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 I get the standard way to fuse. My confusion is why do some people leave it out of the alt to battery wire. I want someone to explain their reasoning for leaving it out, because I don't understand it. TeamHT Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Laziness? Lol. How much have you installed? It is not laziness, I just don't worry about it. I rarely fuse on my own vehicles and never from the alt to battery, battery to battery, or battery to buss bar. It has nothing to do with more than personal preference for me. I don't worry about it and feel confident enough in my install. Of course you should be safe, and take the proper precautions for your install. There really isn't some unknown factor that requires research, lol. I just don't care I need to say, for me! I am in no way telling people not to fuse, lol Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
MrSkippyJ Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 See, I get the logic of not using fuses at all (even I don't agree with it). What I don't understand, and what I am ultimately asking, is why people choose to fuse everything BUT the alt to battery run. TeamHT Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Ah, ok. I see what you are saying now, my mistake. That's a good point but I think that logic could be used for everyone. I don't see enough people fusing from alt to battery, battery to bar, bar to battery, and then to amp. I would like to see someone who has fused every single break in the connection though. Maybe someone who does some fusing but not all connections would answer why they don't Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
MrSkippyJ Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Just seems to be a lot of people that fuse between batteries and amps and then leave the alt fuse off. I probably over fuse in my applications but that's just me. nocturnalrites101 Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 I remember Iraggi posting a thread about its not wise to fuse between your alt and battery, I forget the exact reasons he posted, however i do remember him saying something on the lines of if the fuse blows and the alt is still spinning it will damage the alt. However you do need a fuse on battery in the front also on the same run of wire on the side were it connect to your rear batteries. Every amp that is hooked up would also need to be fused
