ChevyBoy95 Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 i come into these kind of threads ready to help until i read all the good advice people are giving you, and it seems you are trying none of them. 1. PLUG THE RCA THAT GOES INTO THE AMP INTO THE DD-1. DID YOU DO IT? 2. PLAY THE 40HZ 0DB TONE ON THE TEST DISC. DID YOU DO IT? 3. TURN IT UP UNTIL IT DISTORTS. DID YOU DO IT? 4. WITH THAT VOLUME, PLUG THE RCA'S BACK INTO THE AMP AND PLAY A 40HZ -5DB TONE AND TURN THE GAIN UP UNTIL DISTORTION. DID YOU DO IT? crazy thing, this is the directions in that crazy book that came with the dd-1 called a manual. slowfkncar Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 You can smell burning through a sealed box? Play your woofer around 25hz at low volume and place your hand over the woofer to make sure there is no air leaks, check the dust cap also. Fyi,when setting gains through a CD it will only be accurate while "playing a lossless cd" once you switch to ipod your frequency gain is probably higher causing clipping sooner then listening to a cd. Check for leaks,if you cant find anything then play an un-burnt "lossless" cd and see if you still have the problem. Make sure that if your using the loudness or bass enhanchment setting on the stereo they must be turned on before the dd1 adjustment or turned off completly and never used.

Go read the instructions, because if it had said "You can test the Headunit at 1khz through the BASS amp" then I would have tried that before coming here... If you watch Steve's videos, he unhooks the DD-1 from the from the BASS amp and hooks it up Into the treble amp to test the Headunit at 1khz. Yes, I'm going to try all of this out when I have time. Also, the manual doesn't say "Use the -5db track because your sub might distort at -10 or -15" it says if you want louder bass, then use -10 and even louder, use -15. That's why I set it at -10, because I wanted it louder. If I had known that it was going to distort at -10, then I obviously wouldn't have used that tone to set it. And the test tones are on my phone from the D'amore website, I didn't use the cd.
SnowDrifter Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 That's good. Try this: Re-set the gain on your amp, but adjust your filters accordingly. There should be a low pass/LPF/frequency knob on the amp. Turn that all the way up, turn the gain all the way down, and turn the boost all the way down. Re-set using -7.5 (in my sig) and see how that treats you ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Could that be causing it to distort because I left those things on when setting my gains previously?

It doesn't seem like it's not sealed properly or anything. It seems fine. I've read other things where people have said that they have smelled coil through a sealed box before.

While I'm resetting it, is there any other features that could possibly be on the deck at all that I need to change, besides putting everything at flat? I leave the sub level at +15 as well.
