ShadeTreeMechanic
Not trying to be rude but you could put a 10 in the same box. Some 12s would work that small too. If you can get an 8 to do what you want then more power to you. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
oldsoundguy
Not taking it rude at all. I dont know maybe its because I really dont need the sub to flex my truck or be really loud anymore. I just want something that sounds decent. The soundqubed 8 was fine until it started making that weird noise. IDK I do like changing things around so you never know. I really only wanted to run just the one 5 channel amp for the room also. The Rockford is 500W at 1ohm on the sub channel so what ever I run it wouldnt be getting a ton of power. My truck is only a extra cab Toyota Tacoma 2wd. Plus God forbid I ever get into an accident with one of my kids in the back there wont be a big heavy box and sub in there to maybe break loose. Being 49 now with young kids kinda makes you think of stuff like this more. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/

oldsoundguy
Well after trying to design a box using the box I built for the SQ 8 I have come to realize that I need to build a new box. I am trying to get away from having two port bends in my box and if I use the box I built It will have two bends. So here is my new design. Using this new box I will be able to have sub up port up and have the port in the middle of my rear extra cab. It will only have 1 bend in the port. 11.5 H 26 L 10.5 D Gross volume 1.28 Net volume .76 this is after sub and bracing displacement. Physical port length 30.25" Tuning is 36.15 HZ Port height 9" Port width 1.5" Port area 13.50 Port area per foot 17.85 Port ratio 1:6 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/
oldsoundguy
Started the box today. Got just about all the cutting done. I didnt have enough 3/4 baltic birch so I made the bottom of the box with 3/4 MDF that I had. I was able to recycle some of the old box to make the port and ends. I am using a 3/4 baltic top and an extra 1/2 baltic baffle. I have to work a few nights starting tomorrow so I may be able to get the box assembled tomorrow before work. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/
oldsoundguy
Started the box build going today. Its put together and I painted the port black and primed the inside of the box and the back side of the 1st baffle. I will paint it white inside. I purchased a 1/2 12x12 poly and will make a window next to the woofer and install a blue led light strip. The white should make it pop inside the box. I also did all the 45s in the corners and rounded everything off on the corners of the port. So far its my best box build so far. The pocket holes you see were pieces I used from my other box because I didn't have enough 3/4 birch left. I didn't use the pocket holes this time. I think that was overkill and took quite a bit of time. So the bottom MDF was glued and screwed because you wont see it and I also did the back of the box the same way and screwed the port from the back also. You will never see that. Then on the front where you can see I used glue and 1 1/4" pin nails. So with the poly window I will rabbit out a lip for it to set on that will be 1/4" deep on the 3/4" birch. Then on the back side of the 1/2" birch baffle I will rabbit out another 1/4" and make the opening slightly smaller so it will hide the edge of the poly and sit flat to hold everything in place. I am not 100% sure where I will stick the led light strip yet. I will play with locations when the time comes. Also have not decided what to do with the finish on the outside of the box. Oh ya it was cold today so I broke out the kerosene heater. Nice and toasty in the garage. Here are some pics from today. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/
oldsoundguy
Just got home from work and my DC sub showed up a day early. damn this sub is a sexy little beast. This is the kind of sub that you have to have a poly window so you can look in and see how damn cool this basket looks. Ordered some LEDs off ebay and my polycarbonate should be here Friday. Of course here are some pics. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/

oldsoundguy
More box work going on today before I leave for work. I am painting the inside of the box and the back side of the baffle so when I install the blue led strip it will light up better. So first I tried to use a spray can primer. That worked ok and sanded flat just fine. Then I used a can of White spray paint. Let me say that didn't work at all. The spray primer and spay paint just soaked into the birch. So I let that dry and then broke out the real Shit that I should of done in the first place. I used two coats of 2k kills with a small roller and brush. Then as soon as that dried I used white enamel paint and brushed and back rolled it. It is drying right now so as soon as that coat is dry I will hit it with one more and be done with it. Then it will be time to start working on getting the hole cut out for the sub and the window. Here are some quick pics from today. This is the killz This is the first finish coat. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/
