to be honest....you got another test that doesnt involve the brakes? Not wild about the idea of doin this....my brakes are slightly warped as is (they do it like clockwork every 5-6 months).

It's not like you're gonna be wearing the pads or something, its just gonna hold the car in place

its not supposed to slip. when i say slip, i meant you dont go anywhere when you hit the gas, or theres a hesitation with you do hit the gas.

Then what would my problem be when it shifts from second to third and it hesitates a little. like its not catching gear sorry to hijack your thread =/

To the OP checking to see if your fluid is red an not a burnt smell is a good indicator. If you are low or have a burnt smell you need to change out the fluid AND filter. If the tranny doesn't grid or slip your in good shape.

weird week. Tranny is still a little harsh but the fluid is a little above the middle of the hatched marks (where its supposed to be) and still a nice color red. I looked in both manuals I have for my car, (Chiltons and Haynes) and no mention of a tranny filter...at all. I thought that was really weird. So I went to a couple friends who are mechanics and they said its possible I dont have one. So basically Im saying f**k it and gettin one in may for 500 bucks with only 25-30k on it. Ive heard bad shit about Honda transmissions before and figured this has close to 120k on it so I mide as well change it if I want to run the car into the ground. Thanks for the help.

I'm not a mechanic in anyway but im pretty sure your car has a tranny filter. You have to remove the transmission pan to see it.

tranny will usually start slipping if its going to go out and not really shift harder. make sure you dont have chunks on your dipstick and that it is reddish (as stated above).

i dunno anything about this type of stuff, but my tranny has started to "pull"not sure if its the same as slipping, so im guessing thats bad?

the tranny is going out on my dads astro, sometimes it will sort of jerk the van while going up a hill or staying a constant speed. does it do anything of that sort?

Your car has a transmission filter, most automatics do. If you can find a transmission for $500 thats pretty good that is about the same price as a rebuild w/ a homie hookup so you'll be saving about $200-$300.

Check your fluid and look for metal shavings in the fluid it sound like your gears are grinding.

Changing trans oil is a toss up for me, ive learned over the years that if a trans is going bad and starts to get metal shavings from the gears its actually helping the gears make contact, but once you change the oil your gonna lose all those little particles and shavings and your trans is gonna slip real bad because its gonna be real smooth all around, like i said itsa toss up for me because its happened to me and then sometimes it hasnt.
