ModernDayHero07 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I am curious, why set the HU to max unclipped level when setting the gains, even though I don't listen to music that loud? Is it because it is a 0dB track when setting the gains and most music is around -10dB?For example, my headunit clips at about 60 out of 62. I usually listen to music anywhere between 20-40. If I set everything to when it is at 60, won't the gains be incorrect for 30?Everything else makes perfect sense, I am just wondering why.Although on the other hand, the he says in the video the test signal would be 0dB I think, when do I use the -10dB track? And do I set the volume to normal listening volumes than?

MrSkippyJ Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 0db gives you the actual max output of your source. No reason to try and get more out of your source, that is what amps are for! Setting eqs to flat eliminates any distortion introduced by the EQ. Ideally, you drop frequencies instead of raising them. That way don't introduce distortion into a signal. If you set your gains with your volume at 30 then turn your volume up to 60 then bad things will happen. Any reason why you usually listen with your volume at 30? n8ball2013 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 The gains won't be incorrect at lower levels. You are setting them for maximum clean signal. It's up to you to realize that you are introducing noise and distortion. And clipping into your setting by adjusting things from there. The dd-1 is about setting your gains. Just like an opcode or anything else is. If you use a scope you follow the same basic factors to do so. It's not meant as a set and forget as music and people who adjust settings vary greatly. It's meant to be your ceiling. ModernDayHero07 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 At 60 volume, my speakers go crazy loud and sound like crap. I have set my sub's amp's gain using dd-1 at 60, but when i liaten to music at 30-40, the sub is really quiet even though i know for sure it and the amp can handle way more.
