Nas Escobar Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 If so, how good is the quality? After my bad stint with Crunch amps, I have decided to stay away from unknown and uncommon "low end" brands. Today things are a bit different. I'm looking for a flip out head unit for my car, yet all I keep finding is stuff like "Jensen", "Planet Audio", "Boss", or "Dual". I've been told time and time again to stay away from boss, I don't know much about Planet Audio (seems to be an eBay brand as I find it there a lot), Jensen is half and half from what I'm told, and as far as I know, Dual is a Walmart brand. Well, not really, but it seems to be the best place to find Dual stuff is at Walmart. Anyways, I found a flip out that has the detachable buttons, but it's a Dual which begs to ask... How good is Dual? Has anyone tried it? Anyone that considered trying it, why did you, or didn't you buy a Dual product? All help is appreciated.
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 I bought a dual head unit years ago when they first came out figured I would give them a shot. Long story short worst $200 I ever spent. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
hershy314 Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 I had a Dual head unit in one of my cars, it's not horrible but something I wouldn't use again. Also used a dual amp, I know it didn't put out the rated power. It got the job done, but again I'd wait till you could afford something a little better. http://athphotography.deviantart.com/ http://www.youtube.com/user/hershy314

jarrius Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 Never use anything from dual crunch. Sony makes ok head units but I would rather use pioneer. Sony amps and subs are meh there is much letter for the money they cost. 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
Guest Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 i've seen dual amps at o'reillys and autozone.
jk13 Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 Built an octagon shaped box for a buddy that got some free gear for his daily WRX wagon. Goes in place of the spare tire. Dual 500w amp and Sony Xplod 12". If you use their amps divide the rated power by about three or four and that's where it should realistically be. And don't expect great sound quality. It's cheap for a reason. "500w" on a twelve barely keeps up with head unit power on stock speakers. My 250w JL substage in my wife's SUV is substantially louder and better sounding with a single sealed 10". That's how Sony rates their stuff too. 400w RMS plus 800w peak. Add those together and you've got your 1200 watt sub. Completely meaningless number but if you don't know any better it looks impressive. All that said he hasn't had any reliability issues with his cheap gear. But he's also not a complete idiot maxing out gains and boosts and bass control on the deck. Static drops are my bag.
DubNDodge Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 I had a dual HU. It was decent for 90$. Had bluetooth and all the other inputs. Was a PITA to navigate the USB. I had it for about 2 years. Still works to this day. I would rather buy a used kenwood than a new dual though '01 Dodge Stratass Sealed Trunk Build Log 2008 Honda Fit Sport Build Log On 10/3/2013 at 10:00 AM, ROLEXrifleman said: Anyone who says they knew everything they wanted out of life at 19 can go suck a bag of dicks cause they are lying to themselves or brought up in a cult.
Nas Escobar Posted December 25, 2013 Author Report Posted December 25, 2013 Never use anything from dual crunch. Sony makes ok head units but I would rather use pioneer. Sony amps and subs are meh there is much letter for the money they cost. I've tried the subs, don't really like them. Right now, I have a Sony amp that puts out 600 watts rms at 2ohm. I have a Kicker Solo Baric L3 hooked up to it, and it's pretty decent but my Boston Acoustics GT2200 has a better frequency range and makes the sub sound better. Of course, it's not my top choice, but it puts some thump in my Camaro, and that's all I need in there for the moment. I bought the amp at $100, so it's basically what the lower end amps sell for. I do have a Crunch PZA 1600 laying around which I don't know what to do with it. It's not worth jack but it's a 4 channel amp. Power speakers perhaps? As far as the head unit, I guess I'll just find something else. Money wasn't the issue, the issue was finding a flip out for my car because I don't have a 2din opening. I have a 1 1/2 din opening.
