safe to charge up to?

Recommended Posts

Ramp that bitch to max, that is how you get loud, don't you know that :)

15.5 max for burp and 14.4 daily, no benefit higher on daily. Cause more harm then good over time if higher then 14.4 over long periods of time.

And yeah that will work for 4k power. You will see some drop, but not too bad.

14.4 IMO. You don't really gain much by charging high, once you exceed the alternator's output, you'll drop to battery voltage anyway. XS doesn't recommend above 14.4 themselves.

If you charge too high you'll cause your batteries to "gas"

Andrew and Chris nailed it.

And bro, you do know, when you turn it up, its not gonna stay there, right?

The second you pull on it, it will go down.

Its not, set it at 14.4 and thats where you stay...

I didnt know if you understood fully, wasnt trying to be a dick.

For what it its worth: on a hot day / stuck in traffic or something, I'll lower my charge voltage to 13.5 or 13.8

The XS power instruction sheets state a max charging voltage of 14.5 volts.

It is not quite that simple though, the ambient temperature of the batteries and the amount of alternator current capacity makes a big difference.

Cooler batteries with less alternator amperage can take a little bit more charging voltage before they swell.

Hotter batteries, or situations where a lot of amperage could be pushed into each battery will want lower charging voltage to prevent swelling / gassing.

^^ short term charge at lets say 300amp alt output and 14.8v for competition use should be safe though right? would only really need to charge that high for the 30 sec burp.
