dylan117 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 So i wanted to know how it would sound if i inverted my subs i just want to show my XL 18s motor off a little so i wanted to know if there is any difference in sound or loudness or anything ive heard there is no real difference but wanted a second opinion i also heard about switching the wiring and phase on the amp is that true? Thanks!
MrSkippyJ Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Should be minimal sound differences. You will want to change either the phase switch OR the polarity of your subs, not both. CHEVY4X4BLAZER Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 He doesn't Have to change anything If they're both inverted. Assuming 2 subs.
Kyblack76 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 It would sound !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No different... spite your tuning being slightly differnet... SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
Flatsfisher8 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Inverting can help a tiny bit, you're adding volume to the box that was originally displaced by the subs actual displacement, which i noticed in some smaller setups you can pick up a tiny bit more low end, but the main uses are 1, inverting in a 4th order or sealed enclosure allows you to smell baked coils faster before completely frying your sub.. I've always had my m3 8s inverted just because they're sexy and deserve to have eyes laid on them, but every sundown sa i've had, seems to have a bit of motor noise that doesnt sound good at low bass levels that you hear alot inverted, but is regularly hidden by an enclosure. As far as reverse wiring or phase adjusting, 0-180 is the exact same thing as reversing the wiring, but from the controlled tests i've personally messed with it's hard to tell whether there is a big difference between your sub playing forward or backward as far as polarity goes.. Every setup is different, wont hurt trying it out for yourself. You may have luck, may sound a bit worse We just inverted my buds 4 zvx 15s and they sounded awful
scooter99 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Wouldn't he loose the displacement in the enclosure, thus making it different, thus changing the sound quite a bit? Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
Guest Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 invert will help with cooling a bit probably. slightly lower tuning and slightly larger box space. that's it

Aj11 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 ive inverted my last 6 or 7 set ups, i always go magnet out. looks better no displacement easy to wire.but not all set ups need a phase switch.I've heard a few that were inverted on normal polarity And they sound just fine. tr choice is ours jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
oldsoundguy Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 I have run mine both ways and really cant tell a sound or volume difference. It looks bad ass with the big ass SQ HDC 3 magnet but I was planning on flipping it back in the box just so people cant see it as easy. Plus I wanted to run it like that to hear and smell if it can take the power I was feeding it. Makes it easy to check if its getting hot or starting to smell. Neither have happened to I will be dropping it back in the box. 80prs Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 (using active crossovers) Freaking awesome amplifier Incriminator IA 10.1 Focal PS 130v 5.25 (doors) 4" Faital pro Neo (kick panels) 3" Faital pro Neo and focal tweets( dash) DC Audio level 3 12" custom box designed by joex built by me AGM front, XS 750SE batteries rear DC 180 alt 99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179476-my-small-build-turned-into-the-ongoing-build/
