building an electrical for half ohm

IMO with you HO alt I think another battery is overkill but if you plan to go bigger in the near future then maybe. I have not seen below 13 with mine. I don't have the knowledge of others but have the exact amp and running the ohm load your talking about. All set with a DD 1

You make a valid point but the idea of adding another battery at the amp isn't to make up for the alternator. It's to provide ample power as close to the amp as possible.

My 1/0 run from my battery to amp is maybe 8 feet. Maybe that has something to do with my voltage. Is that correct ?

With my 2500 the only thing that will be different will be a 15v regulator in my dc alt.

Putting a battery in the back won't do anything unless he's dipping to battery voltage. Which I highly doubt he will

It could be. But it's more likely a regulator or battery problem if the voltage is consistently below 14.

I didn't say it was a problem. Toyotas are known for lower charging voltage. They charge stock at 14.0 so after its warm it sits at about 13.7-8 so voltage drop is only .4-5 which I don't think is bad at all for my truck running at .5ohms. I talked with dc alt and they can make me a 15 v reg to install in my alt to give me 14.6 charging so maybe after getting that and pulling more power from the amp I will have to see how far the voltage drop is. Might be more

I would say put a battery in the back that way you don't have to deal with that distribution block BS.

Oh I'm sorry, I had actually read that but forgot. You'll be fine then... until you put that 4K beast in there, lol.

Well now with my stock 90 amp alt its dropping in the mid 12s. Its all in a 2001 dodge ram. Bbelijefe what size alt are you running and how did you fuse it? I need a better way of fusing than the stock fuse because its at its max amp already 140A

I could be wrong but I don't think those trucks came with that small an alternator. It should be either 117 or 136 amps. Even on a V6 base truck, 90 amps would be a bit small for a truck.

As for my setup, I have a 200 amp alternator (tested to put out ~230 amps) and I didn't see too bad a voltage drop even with two 1400.1s running at a half ohm. As for fusing, the audio system shouldn't be run through the factory fuse, it should be fused through the big three and battery and should not be connected to the factory fuse at all.
