The heat you feel is from the voice coil heating up, usually not a good sign unless that's your thang. You can get passive subsonic filters between the source and the amp, that will probably help a bit with the heating.

When you think you have checked everything there is to check when troubleshooting a sound system's problem, remember the basics- are there any cats in the area? Do any of the cats have the propensity to go rogue? These are the things one can only learn with experience. No amount of googling will bring you to this level.

No amount of googling will bring you to this level. well im smarter now and imma doubble check now all the things before cranking it up and i turned town the freq on the amp too and imma keep my eye on the cat now allways be aware of cats

But if you want my opinion, both are very solid brands. They both have a range of products that perform very well in their intended applications. Personally I prefer Alpine based on absolutely no factual evidence or real world testing, solely based on the fact that I like Alpine more than Rockford. Given two identical components I would pick the one that said Alpine on it over the one that said Rockford on it for no logical reason whatsoever.
