DubNDodge
I've been looking into an H.O alternator for awhile now. I know I could jump on a Mechman or DC, and be content. A company popped up that I never heard of before, and considered giving them a shot because they seemed new, and the price for output looked nice as well. Something that caught me off guard was it being internally regulated. All I can remember reading about was either PCM through the car or having an external regulator for the alternator. What pros and cons are there to being regulated internally? Also it only has a 1 wire hook up, being the positive stud, and nothing for the factory 2 pin (dodge). Is that going to be an issue with the vehicles computer? Not going to expose any names yet, but I really don't want to be buying into an "ebay" alternator. hdorre
Eh, a shit load of alts are internally regulated.. like mine (factory and HO). Im sure your factory one is too. As far as the computer, idk.. I know that it'd cause an issue with mine, based on how my "electrical light" circuitry is. DubNDodge
Ah, so the two pin connector doesn't go to regulate the alt somewhere else? I'm not completely alternator literate here. I figured either way, something in the car would not be happy if the 2 pin connector wasn't hooked up. hdorre
For my car, i have 2 pins. One pin gets power when the car is on to turn on the alt The other pin is wired to the battery. When battery voltage is low, the alternator "puts more work in." When the battery voltage is higher, the alt takes it easy. Off topic.. is the alt a JS UltimateSounds alt? Just curious. DubNDodge
Ah ok that makes sense. If I crank my system out of no where, it drops MUCH lower than if I had been playing for a bit. I'll have to ask again to make sure that there is/isn't a 2 pin plug on it. Nope, company coming out of florida. Just hoping that this isn't tenny renamed. DubNDodge
Point understood. I just like to try and give small businesses a chance if I can. i.e. the tint on my car. edit: another thing that was sketchy. He wouldn't give me a straight answer on what idle output would be. Kept saying that the alts were only tested at 1500rpm hot. Which at least they test them hot. hdorre
Ehh.. the idle worries me. Id rather have an alt that does 180/200 than an alt that does 100/220.. With no verification.. uhm.. no thanks Peak isn't everything.. Especially in most autos.
