Can you crimp these lugs?

I purchased a few of these awhile ago with the intention to solder them. Since then, I got a 16 ton crimper. I crimped one on some 1/0 Stinger ofc and it pulled out pretty easily. I contacted who I purchased them from asking if I could exchange them for solid lugs, without the split. I was told that these are fine to crimp. I sent this pic to be sure that he knew which lug I was talking about.677.jpgHe said they crimp fine. Since then I've done 2 runs, fuse blocks, all grounds, buss bars. Basically, the entire charging system, crimping these "split" lugs. When crimping these lugs on the new wire, which is not Stinger, I couldn't pull them apart. I'm still not convinced they will last, any thoughts anyone?

No, not properly

Solder them IMO.

Long story short: Crimping cold welds AKA fuses similar metals. I've tested this several times, copper and brass lugs don't fuse - they come apart.

I would slowly but surely change em out for the shca lugz thats what I am going to do.

i always used copper lugs and filled it full of solder and stuck my wire in there. Im not a big fan of crimping. But it should be fine, Is there anything different about your stinger wire compared to your other wire?

Split lugs are harder to crimp. You need to bring in one flap under the other then crimp. If done right you should have no issues with them. They won't look anywhere as nice as the others, but with a little shrink over the end, they will serve their need. This is something you can readdress later when time and or budget allows for it

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Just because it may stay in place with a quick tug doesn't mean it's a good connection. I've tried that, crimped them with a 16 ton crimper with 0 gauge OFC wire. Wiggle it a bit and it comes out.

Tried it a couple times with various crimp settings. Even getting it down to something a hair larger than a pencil. Same result.

Conclusion I came to is because it's a mechanical connection - the lug is squeezing the wire, holding it in place vs. being fused with it. Those lugs are comparatively(vs an amp terminal or fuse holder that is designed to squeeze) thin, they can only "squeeze" so hard before they give. That's why I can wiggle them loose

While on the subject... How are you crimping these anyway? Hammer? Vice grip? Hydraulic?

Yeah man I think your best bet would be to grab some crimp terminals, cut, strip, and re-do. Shouldn't be *that* bad :)
