mbdblue Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 You have been busy! Lookin good! thanks man! little bit more progress....Got them both wrapped, it took forever. I'm usually not the one to use hot glue when wrapping....but this time, it worked very well. The CA glue was just not having it. Maybe I lost that technique....But by the time I was done, it had dropped to 48 degrees out so I opted to hold off on the 1st layer of resin till tuesday when it's supposed to reach 70 again. other side... mbdblue Posted October 29, 2014 Author Report Posted October 29, 2014 So tonight sucked..... .......... I'm never using hot glue again. I don't know if it was something in the resin or the resin itself, but about 15-20 minutes after I saturated the cloth, it started pulling away from the MDF ring....causing it to sag A LOT and wrinkled up. Sorry no pics of that since I was very frustrated ripping off the resin soaked cloth. I also went ahead and threw out the rings. They were too beaten up and I wasn't wild about how they came out. SO, I started over. No wrapping tonight, I'm gonna try to do both wrapping and first layer tomorrow. Here are the new rings....I already like them a lot better than the originals. I used a chamfer on the inside and a roundover on the outside, as well as rabbeting the back outside to make a "shelf" for the new fabric to sit on. They are also smaller by 1/4" around which makes them more manageable to mount and work with than the last ones. mbdblue Posted October 30, 2014 Author Report Posted October 30, 2014 That sucks man, but I def like the new rings better! thanks man....It was incredibly frustrating....but just gotta start over.... So I literally took about an hour and a half just positioning these rings. They will be far enough apart so I doubt anyone will be able to tell if they're off; but I don't care. It bothers me if they aren't damn close....That being said, here they are mounted... kidding.....That's actually a pic of the first way I had them mounted (on the left) and the revision after loosely mounting them on the car (the right). They were angled in towards the dashboard too much. This is them revised....and I also tweaked them again after this pic. I'd say how they sit now is approx. 1/16" off in very specific places. But it's so subtle I don't think it will make a difference. mbdblue Posted November 2, 2014 Author Report Posted November 2, 2014 other side is wrapped. These took me a solid hour or so just to wrap, but it was worth it to make sure nothing goes wrong this time. Gonna wait till tomorrow for the first layer cuz it's down to 36 degrees out. also got some stuff in the mail....2 relays, one for the amp turn ons, and the other to do the ELD bypass along with a 820 ohm resistor. bcbrassard Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 I am currently finishing my doors in my Lancer to house 2 6.5 T2s and i fiber glassed the back of the door panels as well for extra strength, then will sound deaden them for even more strength. You have a different and cool placement of your speakers, should work out nicely and sound great!
Leo1103 Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 Hopefully your bypass goes better than mine, I spentba few hours tinkering with it for it to do nothing lol. I ended up switching to a gm regulator on the alt with an adaptor to keep the stock harness. 2002 Honda CR-VAlpine 9887My BuildRebuilding...
