So one would actually tune that much lower than the resonant frequency of the vehicle to peak at it? I'd have never guess one would tune that low, heck, i'd have never guessed any more than 5hz below it, shows how much I know, huh. LOL

I do know, or think I know, that one would need to account for the whatever enclosure they will be using when finding the resonant frequency of the vehicle, I mean say it's 57Hz with an empty car. After putting that nice 5cuft enclosure (or whatever) in your car, it's going to change the resonance frequency of the vehicle. Not sure, but I'm thinking the reduced internal volume of the vehicle will probably raise the frequency. Maybe even a good 3-4hz depending on the size of the enclosure.

Damn thats a good point, lol thinking about all this testing is making my head hurt, to early in the morning.

Out of the trunk? Are there holes in the rear deck to allow the bass to pass through to the cabin? I'd remove the 6"x9"s at the least, the more you can cut out the better.

Would making a box in my trunk and having an aero port go through the middle of my back seat sound like crap? Since basically the port would be shooting inside the car and sealed from the backseat..

Completely understandable. Not sure what exactly you happened to gain through all your efforts, but I could see +2dB or so allowing people to say it's noticeably louder or more. After all, they say a gain of 3dB is perceived as being twice as loud by the human ear.

Edit,

Wait, you went up but .5dB and had people claiming it was much louder than before?

Wonder if the gain increase was more so somewhere other than at the dash, port, or where the mic was placed.

Guess it wouldn't have been the port, you didn't indicate you were in a port war.

Still, it's be kind of odd to not get the most gain, or at least more, at the dash than at the point one's ears would be.

Hey I just wanted to correct the something you said. A 10 dB increase is perceived as twice as loud. 3 dB is doubling energy but sometimes not very big of a difference in perceived loudness.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

Just competed last night at a sound comp.. Found out that my peak is 38hz i hit a 144.7 sub up port up in a grand marquis. I barely went up from sound dampening and putting the crescendo 3500d from the the AQ 2200. I was hoping to get past 145. I dont think these cars like to meter good

I need to put my other battery in. xs power 3100. I just have the 3400 in the front on a h/o alt 250 amp.

May want to tune a little higher if you want to do better on a termlab. around 46 htz

and yes. more battery power the better.

I think i would end up hating it tuned high lol i im about the lows so i think ill have to just face the fact i wont be loud on the termlab. New box im making is going to be tuned to 33hz 6.5 cubes.
