Timsmo0th
Hi I am new to SQ. I don't think I have even listened to a decent system that was only setup for SQ as of yet. I have a general idea but never sat in a demo vehicle strictly setup for SQ. My question is this: I want to run one or two 10"s in my '93 single cab C1500. I want to make a center seat type box to house the speakers. I will be powering the system with a Phoenix Gold Elite.5 Any suggestions on subs for good SQ but can still go low? I was thinking of some shallow mounts like the Image Dynamics... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/682237/2000-mitsubishi-montero-sport-ls-utility-4d
White Lightning
A good Sound Quality's focus would be on your front stage and image more than Sub Bass ... For your truck (knowing that I have one similar) ... A bad ass pair of 8" drivers (one in each kick pannel) would give you just about as much low end bass response as you would need ... Meaning too much overpowering bass will try and "pull back" your stage and image, which is your main goal in the first place... aculous
Dunno about SQ competition but just actual sound quality I would go with what cabl said. Smaller drivers that have some lower end extension. Possibly a enclosure to help it out a bit. I wouldn't run a center console box, personal experience was with a 2000 F250 so a lot more space but...it didn't work out well and I ended up with a sealed box that I always hated. Also I have not run shallow mount but by what I have been looking at the efficiency is pretty low as in 70-80db. You end up having to put a ton of power to a driver to get it to play louder, which then heats up the coil and you end up hitting the thermal limit and you're screwed. (http://www.audioholics.com/room-acoustics/the-decibel-db) So IMHO, a quality driver, 6-8inch with good efficiency (86db+) that has a good usable frequency range that plays below 50hz would be ideal. Then you get some midbass fill on top of the bass frequencies. And like cabl said you can put it in the door to put your stage further forward. http://www.woofersetc.com/p-11272-primo-804-morel-8-single-4-ohm-subwoofer.aspx Morel 8" Looks like decent specs. (2) of these would give you plenty of punch with good overlap. Every dayton driver I have bought has exceeded expectations http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-es180ti-8-7-esoteric-series-woofer-8-ohm--295-397 http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=SDX10 Have heard really good things about this driver on DIYAudio. Haven't heard it in person but the price and specs look good. (take the opinion with a grain of salt, make sure it makes sense for you, its hard to decipher the armchair cowboys from random posts on a forum) http://www.parts-express.com/peerless-830667-8-paper-cone-sls-subwoofer--264-1102 Big fan of the peerless drivers, quality pieces. http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sd215a-88-8-dvc-subwoofer--295-484 Another dayton driver. Nice.
RainStryke
The best 10 i've heard was the Digital Designs 3510. Other's that are pretty good and have a low free air resonance is the Sundown X-10, Ascendant Havoc 10", SSA Icon 10", Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection 10" and NVX VCW10 subs are all right around 30Hz. Alpine Type R's and any JL Audio sub both keep near the 27Hz range on their stuff, so if you are not throwing tons of power towards your sub, they would suffice. mothra
ahhh, Tim is going for the "Ultimate" SQ. SQ is mainly the listeners preference. But according to SQ competitions they are looking for a flat response across all frequencies for how a speaker outputs sound. getting control of all of the non-speaker related noises is a good place to start. the ID that you stated would be a good place to start. I'd look in to a good 12" if you can give up the space for 2 10s. if nothing changes, nothing changes You don't know what you don't know, till you don't know
Timsmo0th
Oh wow i didnt know anyone replied! Thanks for the input.... I like the idea of two 8" subs in the kicks! I have heard a center console box and didnt like the sound that much... I want some 8"s that can still get low since im a basshead at heart! Those Morels look pretty nice... What do you think about 8"s in the doors? Remember that amp puts out 1100@1 ohm for the sub stage.... Guess ill have to bridge it to 4 ohms so it wont take away from the front stage too much. Marky mark is that you? You ever finish that Focus? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/682237/2000-mitsubishi-montero-sport-ls-utility-4d

Marky mark is that you? You ever finish that Focus? Well the higher resistance and more headroom on an amp the better (so far has been my experience). You get lower distortion running less power and higher resistance in most cases. I would bet your amp can do it with 1100w on tap, run (2) 8" subs at 8 or 4 ohms and put them in the kick panel or the door and call it a day. If you can run it at 8ohms I would do that for a true sound quality geared build.
gckless
Dayton HO's are solid. Seas makes a solid sub, I don't remember the model offhand. JBL GTi's are nice. Anything underhung/XBL^2 is going to sound sweet as well. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.
