I need ideas

Something that's fire retardant may not work so well for a lipo fire seeing as how they burn extremely hot(like 1300°c hot) and take off with a violent reaction.

They do make special bags for charging rc car lipo Batts so maybe you could wrap one around each cell somehow.

All that being said I've been using lipo rc Batts for years and have never had a single thing go wrong, it's all in how you treat it and it seems like you are educated on the things you can and cannot do so I wouldn't worry about fire too much.

Here's a pretty good write up concerning lipo fires.

you could also use thick ceramic tiles from Home Depot or something to separate the cells.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Oh believe me I don't intend to have a fire ;)

But these batteries have enough chemical energy stored up in them that I'm going to take some precautions such that even if a cell were to fail, I wouldn't lose my car + equipment to the fire.

The ceramic tile idea is a good one

IIRC Tesla's battery pack use some sort of insulator that accomplishes what I'm trying to do. Cell isolation in case of failure

I've sent them an email, we'll see if I even get a resposne

Also I would look at the stuff that juicebox and others use to cover their cells. It looks like epoxy.

Also I found this cool little DC-DC buck controller. http://www.mini-box.com/DCDC-USB-200

May be nice so you could use it as a switch almost. You could wire the trigger to your remote lead and then only have the cap bank on when the amps are on. That would help with safety too.

to raise the temp use what the nitrous guys use, a bottle heater. it's already set for 12v, you just need a trigger. i'm sure you could get a second TM1 and instead of setting the trigger for raise temp set it for falling temp.

if nothing changes, nothing changes

You don't know what you don't know, till you don't know

I think I may have a good option for isolating the cells and keeping a fire contained.

I've seen guys use this stuff to make foundry's but I couldn't remember what it was so I did some digging for you.
