HHR Ed
Sure it's still done. Some even still use 2 amps per voice coil. Amps nowadays have slave/master modes and gain matching modes to make it easier. Back in my day (lol) we had to set each amp's gain up hill, both ways in the snow. magillaru
So would there be any benefit of running 2 amps per voice coil on a dual cool sub over running one big amp or does it mainly just come down to application preference, available equipment, etc? * In for the knowledge Singer Alternators Team Asshole #anothershittysingerbuild
Colin - STAPUFT
More amps more power! If you are competing and the class you are running in allows only 1 or 2 subs, but 4 amps or unlimited amps... well- you might run 2 subs on 4 amps.... or 2 subs on 8 amps, or etc... lol You could have 2 DVC subs, with each coil on the sub getting 2 amps (master-slave).... giving you 8 amps total. But just like you said, today big amps are easier to get, so you just don't see it as much. But yeah- gain matching... strike that- output matching becomes *kind-of* important. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Broke_Audio_Addict
I think the one disadvantage of running multiple amps to one sub is the space required because 2 1k amps take up a bigger footprint than 1 2k amp. Actually the extra wiring required is another disadvantage. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. LemonyGuy
Just looked at ampere audio's 1k and 2k, 2 1k would be long than a single 2k.
ALPINE408
Anyone that runs 1 or 2 amps per coil are not going to do it with 1ks... They use 5ks and up not many 20ks out there Also one advantage 2 amps will split the rise in half Have you ever had your woofers blown?
