Beans9 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 So here's the deal I have a 1000.1 d class 2 channel amp running a kicker 15 L7 with a 1.7 frad capacitor with it I have been having problems with my alternator with my amp draining all the power in my alternator. What can I do to help my alternator so I don't have to get a bigger one. Please help!
Skullz Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Get more batteries for starters, then see if you can find an oem alt that has more output if possible but if not you'll want to upgrade to a higher output alt. Ditch the cap as it does nothing for your setup right now that an extra battery can do better, it really helps to have a battery as close as possible to your amps. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2

Moreno93 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 ^ what kind of car, probably turn down the gain i'd guess.
jarrius Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 What year make and model car? Also as said before that 1k amp should not be putting that much strain on your car unless you have a very small alt. Also depending on your cap that alone may be the issue. This is just me but I'm agents running normal caps. They discharge fast(which is what they are ment to do) but now your alt has to charge your batt and now that cap which keeps low voltage due to doing its job. Ways to fix it.. Upgrade your battery under the hood Add a second battery of the same type in the trunk. Big 3 uograde. IMO I would ditch that cap and get a xs power battery (or a north star or any other good battery.) to replace the one under your hood. 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole

rockFord_Expedition Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 First, welcome to the forum. You will be better off posting things in the right section. This would be better started in the electrical section. If you take a moment to read and follow the forum rules you will enjoy your stay here much more than if you don't. On to your problem... Make and model of everything including vehicle and amp. Do you have any other aftermarket electrical hooked up? How did you set your gains? 2 people recommended adding batteries but you never said how low your voltage drops. How are you arriving at the conclusion that your alternator is being overworked? Meaning what signs/symptoms are you getting? After answering those we will be off to a good start. Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire

It took me a few times of using fourms to understand how they work. Idk if your a mod or not, but I'd leave the suggestions to them if you aren't, if you are my apologies. Team Bass-Hz
