Amp ideas for high DC Voltage (144-196VDC)

OK so have you ever measured the current draw of your current setup?

I'd think doing so would give you a better idea of your current demands and I'd bet it's not as high as you'd expect it to be while playing music.

It's going to be hard to power any system for a long time without a way to charge the secondary batteries while playing unless you have a huge reserve capacity.

There are some new lithium Batts for car audio hitting the market that may be able to help you with your goal but they are running $1500 per 40ah so it could get expensive to build a decent reserve.

also I believe they can help you configure the Batts to the voltage of your choosing.

sorry if I came off as an asshole my it's not my intention to be one.

wouldn't mind seeing pics of this project as it progresses either.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

at first thought... beacuse your running VDC already, if you need to bring the voltage down, just use a really big transformer or a few of them, go find some 1000watt microwave transformers, take out the 2nd coil and re-wrap it to bring it down to 12-15vdc or what ever you want your car audio to run at. assuming your not going for a HUGE system to conserve batt power, a single 1800w transformer should work.

EDIT.... if you didnt want to drop the voltage down if your going to run a 144vdc set up... you could just run 10 amps in series for 14.4v each LOL

Ummmmmm $20k into an 83 capri?

Yes, batteries are very cost prohibitive. I am trying to work on a group buy as several companies give tiered flat percentage discounts based on amp hours purchased.

The car is special to me - it does not haven't to be special to you. With that being said, the car was willed to me and money was provided explicitly how I want to re-do the car. 5.0L Fox Bodies are a dime a dozen.

I do admire your post count, but I would appricate a more constructive response to the question(s) asked.

All he did was ask about 20k going into something like your vehicle.

He didnt say anything bad about your shit. If you take "ummmmm" as an insult than you will ragequit this forum forsure.

LOL@ admire post count, one of the biggest dicks on here has over 20k posts.

Maybe you shouldve told us the car has sentimental value if you were going to be sensitive with comments about it.

That being said I think you should take your money to a shop that handles these kinds of things.

This kind of job should only be done by someone with the proper training since death is easy to come by with 1 mistake.

You could mess up something and burn your precious car to the ground.

Maybe a high voltage taramps is for you but I'm not sure how those work or if they would match to your application.

Sorry it's been a few days since I've responded. Been switching between my old PC and my new rig. Re-downloading 20TB+ from the cloud takes some time.

There is no "current" setup. My Alpine PDX-M12 and 2x Sundown Audio SA-8 V.2's wont appear in this car (2011 Fiesta). Back in it's (Capri) ICE days (and currently) the audio is driven by Memphis amps with Boston Acoustic 3.5" rounds up front and Memphis 6"x9" in the rear (inside the bubble back) + Memphis woofers.

I'd like to refocus this thread toward the car audio aspect of the build. Regardless if I "shop out" the ICE to e-motor conversion, I'd like to be a part of the design and implementation of the audio system.

Refocused: Do I tap the high DC voltage and convert it to lower DC voltage (a lot of wasted power?)? Do I convert it to 120 VAC and run Home/Pro Audio amplification? Or do I create a dedicated "Low" DC voltage circuit for car audio.

Keep in mind a 3.35VDC 180Ah/Cell 100% charge that quickly drops to a 3.2 VDC 180Ah Cell. 5 of these cells in series is 16.75 VDC max//16 VDC nominal while 6 of these are 20.1 VDC max//19.2 VDC. The reason I initially posted this in the Sundown Forum was to determine if the SAZ line of amplifiers (used now?) can handle 20.1 VDC turn on voltage with a 19.2 VDC continuous.

The only reason I even made this thread is because as an Electrical Engineer, I believe many people could utilize a 100 mile range EV that can "thump" for the duration that millage. I have already handled this VDC (albeit lower Ah) in college and want to work toward pre-solving (what I consider) the inevitable. Tesla has already published a "don't **** what we've created" ideal. I view the Model S as a mobile mini-power plant. If I could afford a Model S, I'd be Elon Musk's (despite being my idol) worse nightmare. This project *will* be put on hold if he can deliver his Model III. If he can, I will attempt to tap into/push the underlying electrical subsystem for an audio system.

As a reference, I'm looking at a ~SAZ 3500D for LF + ~5/600 watts toward M/HF.

not going to find many 2 or 4 channels handling higher then 14 volts.. just to let you know and that's all i have lol.. only suggestion i would have a separate electrical for the stereo

dls make a 24v amp i think

Like ive said before but i guess no one read.... use a transformer to drop the high voltage down to 14ish volts for the car audio.... ive done it before, i use an 1800w transformer to run 14v in my room to test amps and speakers, it im dropping it down from 120vac.... 11 wraps around the 2nd coil dropped me down to 11.3vac and the a few good bridged rectifiers, a nice capacitor bank to smooth the signal and im sitting at almost 14vdc even with roughly 100amps of power at my disposal. Just do the same thing and you wont even need the rectifiers or caps cause your running vdc already.

To start... all car audio amps will work just fine up to 15v so there are plenty of 2 and 4 channel amps that will run on 14v. Its stupid to say there are only a few cause a car runs at 14v or higher so obviously any anp will work just fine
