how to determine port length for 2 pipe ports

Hey guys.. So I'm building a box for one of my buddies.. it is an odd shaped box. One that I can't make in Torres. The box will be using 2 3 Inch pipe ports, 1 on either side of the sub.

Anyway, I've been using 12volt.com to help find the volume and port length. I came up with around 2 cu.ft... so I plugged that in and port diameter of 3, and desired tuning of 40 htz. It told me I only need a length of justay under 4!!???

Is that right??? That would mean each port would only be less than 2 inches!! Did I plug it in right??

Thanks for the help guys..

This is the site I've been using, http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

What sub is this for and what amp?

Two 3" ports isn't much port area. If you add more port area the ports will need to be longer, which may actually make thing easier in your case.

Thanks CstrokerV. I used that site to determine I need a minimum port diameter of 7.7in... so how do I use my 3 in ports to achieve that or better diameter??

Thanks Skullz, but I got box area figured.. it comes to about 2.4 cuft.. I rounded down to account for bracing, sub displacement and what not

remember also that the larger your port is the more volume it will take inside the box, thereby changing your tuning frequency.
