MOSFET Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 Hi EVERYONE!!!! So I bought a new runabout for myself about 6 months ago, a 2003 Mazda Protege. I used to be heavily involved with car audio including being an IASCA competitor through the '90's, I worked for Phoenix Gold in their PR dept (in Portland, OR) in the '99-02 time-frame, and even judging at a few IASCA events. Bought I sort of lost interest after selling my last big system in my Subaru Forrester around '08: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2359697/1999-subaru-forester/ I was more interested in my HT and my wife thought I was losing my hearing. Anyway, I get this new car and decide to put a modest system in it. As part of my job (my wife and I own two antique stores) involves buying things from Craig's List, as kind of an experiment (AND OBVIOUSLY TO SAVE MONEY), I decided to buy EVERYTHING for this new system off of Craig's List. It's done and I spent a total of $340, and that bought EVERYTHING in the system (HU, amps, all speakers, subs, etc.) with the exception of fuses and speaker wire (new), and interconnects that I already owned. I did all the installation myself. Here it is: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/4083220/2003-mazda-protege/ It is ANYTHING but modest. Despite using coaxials for my fronts, I SWEAR, this is the best sounding system I have ever built. And the bass is just plain PUNISHING (I TRULY have not TOTALLY opened the throttle up on my Kenwood amp, my subwoofer amp, even after 2 months of owenership. EVERYTHING I bought worked perfectly, and two sets of speakers I bought were BRAND NEW. Unlike Ebay and Amazon, folks on CR generally are just looking to get a few bucks for their old stuff. Hence, if you are patient, and know what you want, it is rather AMAZING what you can get. My Alpine HU (CDA-105) was bought for $35, the two MTX 8000 12" subs, for $50. Also, with CR, you can test everything quickly before you buy it. I just hooked things up quickly to make sure the lights came on. But everything worked perfectly. IT SHOWS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE to get a good system. KNOWLEDGE is the most valuable commodity like knowing what (and what not!!) to buy and of course installation knowledge. THAT IS WHY FORUMS LIKE THIS ONE ARE SO IMPORTANT. Anyway, that is my car and my system. I am ALWAYS looking for ways to improve it of course. I have an extra amplifier and would love to get a set of separates and bi-amp them as I did in my previous systems. It's just, these Pioneer D-Series coaxials sound SO DAMN GOOD!!!!! THANKS FOR LOOKING, AND HI TO EVERYONE!!!! MOSFET
