quincyj34 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 I have two optima red tops in my f150 and the other day I decided to test them to see how they were doing. For a while I noticed at night my dash lights had a slight flicker and my voltage gauge needle was going crazy at idle when I first started up but on my digital voltage gauge I didn't have much fluctuations and I just figured my mechman alt was doing its thing. So come to find out both batteries were sitting at about half off were they should be. My front battery is older and I have been suspicious of it going out for awhile now. I took out the front and it has been on a charger for the past couple of days and just use my back one as my primary. Now that im down to one battery my truck seems to run a lot better and I'm not sure if its because both were low causing my alt to work harder or if its because its lighter due to me taking out the second battery. Ive been wanting to swap them out for two xs power d3400 but now Im not sure. If the weight of one extra battery makes that much difference on my trucks performance Id rather go with a single battery or a d3400 with a xp950. Anybody have any draw backs to a multiple battery setup?
OrionStang Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 You won't notice the weight of one extra battery. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
everybodyknowme Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 its a truck...they're heavy anyways and made to haul stuff. The bad battery may make you ride sluggish due to extra load on the alt as you said. You won't notice an extra 50 pound difference in any truck
boom50cal Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 I'll put it this way. 06 F150 5.4 3v. 3.55 gears, 305/50/20's stock battery agm: slower than fuck stock battery agm + xs power xp2000 and toolbox full of tools: slower than fuck It's an F150 bro. they don't go fast. I noticed not a single difference in adding 300ish-lbs of shit into my truck. Not a SINGLE difference. It's nearly a 6k-lb vehicle. 2 60lb batteries isn't going to make or brake it's ability to lug itself around traffic or tow a car home from a night racing. Trust me, it didn't make a difference for me. On 1/4/2013 at 9:31 PM, HatersGonnaHate said: Wow. 184 posts and I think you're a fucking asshole.
CleanSierra Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 What do you mean the batteries were about half off of what that should be? What does that mean exactly? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

quincyj34 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Posted November 18, 2015 What do you mean the batteries were about half off of what that should be? What does that mean exactly? The cca. They are rated for 800 cca and they were a 322. Thanks guys for the help. Ill go with two D3400
CleanSierra Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 What were the batteries resting at, voltage wise? Do you remember? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
SLYentist Posted November 20, 2015 Report Posted November 20, 2015 CCAs really don't matter for car audio. resting voltage is an ok test, load testing is the best method of testing. Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.
