BigZ Posted November 29, 2015 Report Posted November 29, 2015 Alright, So im not 100% on whether or not this violates any rules, if it does then by all means lock and toss it, im just intrigued and confused. anyway, buckle up, theres a bit to read. Im in the process of selling a sub and an amp on craigslist for X amount. Some guy gets in touch with me, we exchange necessary information and since he is out of town at the moment and seems to be technologically illiterate, mailed me a paper check. The check looks legit and i did a good amount of background checking and stalking and blah blah and it all appears to be legit, the locations, the indivudial, it all matches up, but my question is, is it just me, or does it seem odd to anyone else that the check came from a texas bank and a residence in texas, the USPS shipped from address came from San Diego, The phone number is from New Mexico, and the ad was posted on the Raleigh/Durham NC craigslist. And on top of all that, the check amount is almost 4x the amount we agreed upon for the equipment. and just as a heads up i wasnt going to cash it from the beginning, more just entertaining the idea of it and finding out who was trying to scam me. cheers! BigZ Posted November 29, 2015 Author Report Posted November 29, 2015 well yeah, i guess i shouldve prefaced the whole thing by saying i was entertaining the paper check idea just to see who was trying to scam me, i was just curious as to what the deal actually was with who was trying to get what. what confused me is that the addresses of everything and the residences and owners and all that all checks out and the amount is 4x the agreed amount, either way im not touching it, i was just intrigued i suppose. If the 4x the agreed amount didn't give it away instantly then I don't know what would. BigZ Posted November 29, 2015 Author Report Posted November 29, 2015 i didnt have faith in it from the beginning, its just amusing really, and might i add, incredibly difficult to sell decent equipment to people that think boss and kicker are the best things ever but anyway, yeah, it was incredibly sketchy from the beginning, i'm also not sure how he thought he was going to get a hold of the sub and amp being out of town and having sent a paper check lol.
