Number of runs

Ok i am making 3 runs of power to rear battery bank to power amp! Questions are #1 do i need 3 runs between alt and primary battery? #2 do i have to have 3 runs between each additional battery in rear? #3 do i have to have 3 runs of ground on each battery?

I'll do body filler all day every day, but this reinforced, fortified fucking kitty hair can kiss my balls.

why do you have 3 runs of power wire? what gauge wire and what type (CCA or OFC) are you using?

If you know the ampacity/ft rating on that cable, then that will tell you how many runs you need in between the alternator and main battery, and then how many runs between each rear battery (although if you have them all right next two each other and not spread out, I would say one run connecting each is fine, or you could do a buss bar).

Take some speaker wire or something, figure out where/how you want to route the run(s) from alt to battery, mark how long it is, and then look up the ampacity of that welding wire per ft, and bam, now you know how many runs you need under the hood.

What size alt/alts are you running and how many?

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

From reading your other posts in this thread...

2/0 at 20ft lengths is easily good enough to carry 300A per wire.

#1) Between the alternator, you only need enough wire to cover the peak output of your alternator, anything else is "overkill" and will probably have heavily diminished results of effectiveness (basically no effect). If your alt does for example 300a of peak output, use a wire that can carry 300+ amps. The alternator to front battery run will be short, so even a 1/0 wire would be OK, but since you have 2/0, use that.

#2) Between each battery in the rear, it becomes a case by case, but usually with the wire jumpers being so short, less that 1 ft in length, 1 2/0 jumper is plenty to carry enough amperage under constant load and huge spikes in amperage draw.

#3) As far as grounding the battery bank, you will only need as much grounding as it takes to supply a solid "loop" from the front of the electrical system to the rear bank. (since almost all your reserve is in the rear, covering the "travel" of alternator output is basically the goal) In your case, 2 or 3 2/0 frame grounds should be enough (don't forget to add frame grounds in the front as well).

Ok so this will be my layout, already have all parts except the alt which i am still waiting on from singer. Alt is 370a - (2) 2/0 3ft runs to primary battery - from there (3) runs each fused at 200a on each end to rear bank - this will be rear primary battery - from rear primary 3 runs fused at 200a apiece to amplifer - (1) 2/0 jumper between 2 rear batteries " may go 2 to be safe" - 2 runs of ground to frame per battery.

Hope this makes sence... if not i can try a different method to explain

I would do 300a fuses personally otherwise you are limiting the capability of your wire.

And how many batteries are you running in the rear?
