XS Power

Batt/alternater combo for 3400 Watts

Recommended Posts

I am building a system in my boat, please advise as to what I will need battery and alternator.

Will be running:

-two Alpine PDX M12 (1200 RMS) with Type R 10 inch subs

-one Alpine PDX V9 (1100 RMS) with two sets of SPR 60s and two Type R 8 inch subs.

I would like to be able to run my system for as long as possible with the motor off at or near peak and then recharge quickly while making runs up the lake.

Thx in advance for any pros who can offer some advice

I don't think anyone with any sense will recommend playing your system with the engine off and the batteries not being charged for "as long as possible", over and over again. That will stress the batteries a lot shortening their life span dramatically. And then the alternator(s). Using an alternator to bring batteries at low voltage back to life isn't good. Leave the engine running, and bring extra gas with you. That's my suggestion.

Just put a couple bats in there, take a charged JUMP MATE with you at all times, get a nice charger to plug it in when sitting around.

People put systems in boats all the time. My neighbor has 4 10's and a dozen 6.5 in his. Just add bank, keep it charged. Its not science math.

Thx for your opinions gents

Letting the motor run is not practical it is a high performance 454 and not meant to idle.

I realize that the system will be taxing the batteries, the battery bank (two Deep cycles) for the stereo would be isolated from the starting batteries.

Looking for someone with knowledge to advise on alternator size and battery size for best chance and meeting my goals here.

not being an ass but if your 454 cant idle you have other issues with cooling. check your timing.. . my neighbors 632 idles all day . trrust me. it .. just ... idleeesssss... allll dddaaayyyyy..

but truly, long playtime 'sucks" 'the life out of a batt and the more you do it , the less it is replenished. it dosent matter what brand or size they are, they will kill themselves by being discharged all the time.. now what do you consider 'all the time' is up too you. like once a month? or once a day . it makes a difference

if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
