Triticum Agricolam
Well I was able to start making some sawdust on this project. Here are some pics: I got started with cutting out the pieces for the base torsion box. To make the torsion box all the pieces had to be notched. I used a dado blade in the table saw, this took a while to do. All the pieces are notched and ready to go. Here is the dry-fit torsion box. For only a 32" x 48" cutting area this thing has a pretty big footprint. I'm probably going to have to figure out how I want to do the base before I can get too much done on the router itself. Triticum Agricolam
More progress, more pics: Gluing the top and bottom on the main torsion box. I made a base for this thing and put it down in my main shop, where I actually have room for it: I'm attaching the end plates to the torsion box with 1/4" bolts and threaded inserts: Next step is to move the completed torsion box down to my other shop and put it on the base. Broke_Audio_Addict
I'm super excited to see you get this done and it's looking great. Hopefully my enclosure will be one of the first things you work on with this. Either way it's looking great and I can't wait to see all the cool stuff you turn out with this new tool. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. Same, hoping i can take some inspiration from this for my CNC. Working on a 4x8 bed CNC with a friend, seeing stuff like this really reinforces the idea that car audio is just getting more and more advanced. Personal CNC's are going to change the game for real. Yeah I'm pretty excited to get it done too! Don't worry, your enclosure is right at the top of the list. :-) Same, hoping i can take some inspiration from this for my CNC. I'm jealous you are building a 4x8 machine, that's what I really want to do, but its a problem of not enough space, not enough money. It is going to be your own design or is it one someone else has developed? If the one I'm build now really works out and earns its keep I may be able to make a larger machine happen down the road. I totally agree that CNCs are really changing things, and not just in car audio. Just about every "creation" type industry is seeing a big change. Triticum Agricolam
Well I've had to put this project on hold for a couple months while I got a bunch of other stuff done, but I'm caught up now so I can focus on the CNC again. I got the table sitting on its stand in my other shop building: Y axis rails are attached to the table: The sides of the gantry have been cutout: Here are the sides with their bearings attached and mounted on to the rails: While I have most of this design planned out ahead of time, some things I'm figuring out as I go. One of those things was how wide the gantry cross pieces are going to be. Now that I have the sides on the rails I was able to take measurements and can begin building the cross pieces.
