solid vs stranded wire, get in here smart guys

So A.C. power uses that fancy skin effect and stuff and D.C. does not. And i think, typically solid copper works better for A.C. voltage than D.C. and stranded is better for D.C. .

so, other than the lack of flexibility, shouldnt we be using solid copper wire for our speakers when we can? I mean, those who are the type who try to get every last .001% out of their gear.

Discuss.

I see your theory behind it, but myself i would continue to use speaker wire. People have been pursuing car audio since the 1970's i bet if solid copper wire GAINED anything we might have seem more people doing/trying this.... just thinking about the pioneers before us. I would say it would work if you had the same amount of surface area on the solid wire as you do speaker wire. Just like how people use buss bars for power and ground. But like you said flexabiliy is out the window and for me i rather just use speaker wire.

There would be a difference for sure but if you could actually hear the difference I'm not sure.

Solid copper or a litz wire would be the best options for hooking up speakers but aren't used for obvious reasons.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Well I thought skin effect only occurred at high frequencies? Which is why it doesn't make a huge difference for our application. Then again I don't know at what frequency it starts to occur.

i dont know, i mean typical single phase is 60hz so why do they even mention it?

not arguing, i just dont know.

Pretty sure I've seen people use solid for wiring up subs, but it may have been for looks rather than performamce.

yes, i was going to mention it but i would have to dig up that build log,

nice find

idk if its the build yall posted but i think wicks was going to do that but learned that solid copper wire doesnt work well with vibrations, and will form hairline cracks that arent visible, and arent detectable with a DMM because the wire is still touching, but once you start playing music and having vibrations itll short out and protect the amp.
