Okay my bro has a 1000W sony amp pushin a 15" L7 wired at 2-ohms with a 4g power and 8g ground. the ground is to the sheetmetal under the carpet in the trunk and it lit on fire twice b4 we had it bolted to the trunk lid and actually scorched the lid!! any help?

Why would you use 4g power Then bust out the Speaker wire for a ground....?

Use 4g for the ground aswell!

rule of thumb is to always run the same size ground as the hot going to the amps....

I no longer live by tha sword, I'm living tha good life cuz I live it for the Lord. God is good, all tha time...

agreed.... always use the same size wire..... why would u ground it to the trunk lid???

i was wondering the same thing!! those are the problems........use the same size wire and then find a different place to ground it! NOT THE TRUNK LID :wacko:

It is the heat from the smaller wire that will cause problems. It tries to keep up with the current flow from the larger power wire and creates heat. I have seen the insulation melt on power wire before but never seen it catch anything on fire, only heard horror stories about people burning up cars from poor install or improper wire/fuse choice.

Bolt the ground to bare metal on the body or frame of the car. If you don't feel confident doing that you can always run the wire directly back to the battery negative post.
