mbdblue
Pulled the glass foot out...As I figured, it wasn't thick enough. went ahead and used the stronger cloth on top. rounded over the under edge of the shelf and mounted it. Another test fit on how it's looking. Still not 100% on what the cover panels are gonna look like, but I'll keep building and thinking until I get to that point (hopefully I decide by then). Sky wasn't looking too happy and started raining so I quit for today.... This weekend I plan on getting a lot of odds and ends done. As well as picking up the MDF for the cover panels. mbdblue
not much done today....But I didn't realize how tall the box will be after the trim panels go on. The surrounds will be too close for comfort to the overhang of the rear seat....So I decided to push the box out a little further. It also allows me to hide the speaker terminal under the cover. At first I planned on sanding down the edge to match the top panel edge....then I realized it would be a lot better if the top trim panel just ended up right across the top.... More tomorrow AA-Atomic-Clif Designs-DC-Diamond-Digital Designs-Directed-Eclipse-Fi-Hertz-Hifonics-Kenwood-Memphis-Phoenix Gold-Pioneer-PPI-PSi-Stinger-Sundown-TC Sounds-Viper-Zapco
mbdblue
still trying to figure out the trim panels....Came to a decision but realized the 2 different colors of carpet I wanted to use are so close it would just look like a mistake...I can either use another color, or a darker color but then it won't blend into the stock color....eh, I might end up using one and just break up the monotony with indentations... starting to play with trim panels....think I've decided on the pieces I took out, but they were going to be 2 different colors...we'll see. mbdblue
also considered vinyl....would definitely look cool, but the panel I want in vinyl will be pretty big, and I've never wrapped before....so not super willing to buy like 60+ bucks in vinyl to screw it up. mbdblue
Looking better and better, with those side pieces I can't wait to see this done. thanks man! I can't wait to get it done just cuz it's taking so long haha The trim panels really got me stumped. Vinyl would be the solution but I'm not convinced I can handle it...especially on a piece that's so big. Rained all day today so I can't really do anything yet, but should be nice the rest of the week. I might just make the panels and keep thinking about it. Maybe I'll get a better idea with what I'm up against when it's sitting in front of me. On another note, I picked up a spoiler...Popped up on ebay so I snagged it for 90 bucks shipped. Couldn't resist, it's the same color; normally, I'm not into spoilers at all...But ever since I took the roof rack off, I realized how big the headlights and taillights look without the extra height. I needed something to break up the giant blobby curve that is this car. So now I get to drill into the sheet metal this is what it looks like (minus the roof rack.....and I'm definitely lowering it next year) stock image picking up the wood for the trim tomorrow AA-Atomic-Clif Designs-DC-Diamond-Digital Designs-Directed-Eclipse-Fi-Hertz-Hifonics-Kenwood-Memphis-Phoenix Gold-Pioneer-PPI-PSi-Stinger-Sundown-TC Sounds-Viper-Zapco
mbdblue
couple little things getting done. Realized I had to sand down and paint the flange before putting in the ports permanently...and finally started gluing everything together. Got delayed using the barbed inserts I bought...I screwed up and didn't check that they were right when I got them a month ago. I ordered 10-32 and they sent me 8-32, so I re-ordered and hopefully they come tomorrow. Almost done getting the contour of the sides for the trim panels, and drilled the holes through the sheet metal for the spoiler tonight. Broke my rivnut tool so I'm gonna install the rivnuts on lunch break tomorrow, but the test fit looks good. kinda breaks up the chubby wagon....or just puts a bill on it. Also, this car really likes to catch wind on the highway; gets a little squirrely on breezy days....that's the other reason for the spoiler...and I plan on lowering it next spring (with some wider tires/wheels) with hopes of bringing it towards the ground, maybe the wind will go over it?? haha. Doubt the spoiler will help, but it can't hurt. More this weekend. mbdblue
Looking good bro.... keep up the good work, making me want to put a finishing touch on the Lancer. thanks man! Trying to finish this thing but it just keeps going... Had a setback...Went to install the "right" inserts, and realized they are too big. Sundown recommends 7 3/8" for the cutout diameter, but there was about a 1/16" of play and the subs weren't 100% dead center so some of the holes were closer to the cutout when I drilled them.....This is the result so I got fairly angry at this point and stopped. I hate trying to make a panel again that was already made and relies on other panels to fit...mainly because if you fuck up one thing, you have to keep starting over. Luckily, I was able to pull it off...I went ahead and changed the cutout diameter to 7 5/16" which gave me a snug fit, and ironically ended up using the 8-32 inserts with a truss head bolt. also went ahead and epoxy'd the ports in, and made the passenger side trim panels....the panels I'm making aren't actually gonna be the ones that get installed. They are just to find the contours of the walls, while keeping it square to the box.
