MrSkippyJ
no. it would blow the first fuse, but since the wire is still connected to the + of the other battery you still have a dead short. Just throwing that out there, if thats another precaution you'd like to take care of. I'm pretty sure the alternator to battery is factory fused, so that shouldn't be an issue

Although, you may not need a second set of fuses on the front-to-back wire run. For instance, you have an alt up front with one batt. All your power consumers (amps) are in the back of the car. Amperage shouldnt flow towards the front of the car like it will towards the back. This justifies keeping the fuse set near the front battery. As for the starter (your largest amp draw under the hood), it should be fused/linked from stock, so that power consumer is not a concern. IMO, since the starter is already fused, and since the power consumers are all at the rear bank, you may only need to fuse your front-to-back run under the hood since that is the primary direction current will be flowing. Although, there is nothing wrong with fusing that run twice EDIT: This thread is making me consider adding a second set of fuses on my long run, so I'm interested to see the responses. So, with 21 16v batteries in the rear, you would just leave a 20 foot run, (or 10) live ? Dude...... you could NOT be more wrong in this instance. This coming from a dude that NEVER fuses his amp runs, nor is alt runs....... But arent u doing ur BIG3? With 2/0? So u might wanna fuse that 2/0 run thats goin from ur positive of ur front battery to the alternator. You are replacing that wire with 2/0 also arent u? It would travel through the 2/0 instead. I was thinking that because I used all the factory wires in addition to the 2/0, the factory inline fuse would work lol. Dunno. I've not seen very many people fuse their alt to battery, so I'm not gonna worry about it. If it becomes an issue, I'll learn from it.

Yah i just recently heard of that, some people say u should, some say its not needed. I guess just depends on ur own preference. I dont think im going to do that either, just thought id let u know about it. But im glad ur post showed me the idea of fusing at both ends of long runs. Im glad i ran across this topic, as i wasnt considering a worst case scenario. I plan on adding fusing to my batt under hood, as Red drew, since my long run is only fused near the rear bank. Check for updates on my build log. We never stop learning, do we? Kyle, did your Blazer have fusing? I cant remember, its a long build log. If not, what was the reason? I know yall added fusing to Kennys burban to help the Psyclone score (and probably for safety, too).
