ptcary
Who has gone 3 way active up front? Is there a significant difference in SQ vs a passive 3-way front stage? EricR
passive you use the crossovers supplied with the component set. active you buy each mid/high separately and use a seperate crossover with a dedicated channel for each speaker.....at least thats my take on it. i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work? Forevrbumpn
electronic vs external xover like 3 way electronic crossovers, usually before the amp I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. Stephen
Active is processing the signal before the amp then run the speakers directly to the amp with none of the crossover boxes(passive). Passive is running a full signal or a hpf to the amp then amps to crossovers then crossover to speakers. with active you have a hpf and a lpf creating a bandpass filter. say subs 80hz down mids 80-3000hz and tweeters 3000k up. passive crossovers eat up power and with active processing you dont loose power through the crossover. you can cook bacon shirtless if you're not a pussy...lol not hatin, but am i wrong here it looks as if the amp is not grounded its hooked directly to the battery. it that the way it should be. kingsuv
I went from passive to active it it made a huge difference in my sound stage. It gave me a ton more control. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
RamenNoodles
Where can i find some decent active crossovers? I can get my hands on some Ascendant 7" speakers that require active to be used. I really would like to try these AA speakers out since just about no one has them and they are $100.
