What OS are you running? And When you say it won't let you see certain things... the icons just dont show up down there? Or they show up, but if you click them they do nothing?

If you are running Windows Vista. Right click on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen. Click on properties, click on the notification area tab, than click on customize.

After about two weeks I fell in love with vista. It took some getting used to but overall it is a very clean OS. As for your problem, That used to happen to me on my old computer. When it does best thing you can do is just let the computer chill or completely shut it down ( unplug it) for like five minutes. Usually it's just a result of a very confused processor.

man keep that useless comment to yourself. dont post just to be a post whore. he asked about the vista notification area.

p_mcnaughts suggestion should work. i did have the same problem as you where it wouldnt let me click on em, but i think i just restarted and it was good to go.
