slim8605
Good news, i put it in! Bad news, voltage is droppin even lower! It took me almost 3 hours to do it cuz it started gettin dark and it was hard for me to get to. first problem was gettin the old one out. second was the wheel on the new alternator. it was smaller than the original so my belt was lose when i installed it. Then i had tha guy at advanced auto parts switch tha old wheel to tha new one. Ok.. got it hooked up, turned on tha car 14.5v! hooked my amp back up(not turned up, jus connected) turned my lights on and...13.3v...12.7v...11.2v. Disconnected tha amp again and it still dropped. On tha way home i got stopped at a light and it got down to 9.8v! :^ as long as im on tha gas at about 1600rpm and above i get 14.1v-14.5v but as soon as i let off it jus continues to drop! i think it might have somethin to do wit me switchin tha wheels but if its somethin else, please let me know! Dale
I also think it has something to do with switching the wheel. The wheel is small for a reason... a smaller wheel will spin faster than its larger counterpart at any given engine RPM. So you pretty much dropped the alternator's effective idling RPM by making the wheel bigger.
Pokey
Damn, you beat me to it, I was changing a diaper, LoL. You just need to change the wheels back to the way they were and get a new belt that is long enough to fit it.

mojoman
yep you are correct with your assessment. the pulley that comes with the new alt is supposed to be used. you are only slowing the alt down going back to the old pulley. less rpm's at idle means you need to rev higher to get the proper output of the alt. put the pulley back on and tighten you tensioner or get a smaller belt. hopefully that helps ya.
