Noobtastic14 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 The Entire drive back i debated with myself as to how to handle this, in a community that i respect so much. Basicly, the woofer caught fire today and ends up being a tinsel that caught the bottom layer suspension a blaze. The amp was set with a DMM and I've had three different woofers on it @2ohm over the last 8-9months with no issues. So, the question i keep asking myself is what did i do wrong? It is frustrating but ultimately doesn't bother me. As much as i enjoy the hobby and the cool people that are involved with it i don't invest to much into any physical possession because nothing lasts forever and i just enjoy what i have while i have it. So, Emailing RE right now and i'll make my move as to where to go with it once i get a quote back for a recone (hopefully as D2 not D1) without further adieu, you damn pic whores. -Drew I am a United States Military Arts and Crafts Professional. David Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 what is your voltage like? low voltage = clipping= something going bad. Classic under-Powering problem, 400wrms on a 2kw woofer, not loud enough turn it up a tad bit more, poof something goes up in smoke.

David Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 imo its hard to say exactly what happened, IMO the coil looks great. how about over excurting the sub? any popping noises or bottoming out? you would think with only 400 watts on the sub it wouldnt over excurt, but the sub has petty soft spiders so who knows Id love to look at it in peson.
