Requests for advice/help from Meade (me :P)

ok i got one now.

when you placed the box on 45degreee angles and let all that resin level out and harden then put some mat or cloth over that on all the corners.

couldnt you have just fitted a peice of mdf there to 45degree the corners then add some resin and cloth or mat over it.

or is there any benefits either way. whats best

lol to be honest i think the resin only works better because theres alot less room for imperfections

i mean the material used doesnt matter one bit to the box but with the mdf it might not be 100% fitting and the angle might be slightly off ect ect. Now in steaves position that tiny thing might make or break a higher score plus he has the ablity and skill to it the perfect way so why do it differently... nothing beats gravity

theres no such thing as too expensive when it comes to upgrades like that, because imo if you are gonna spend to upgrade then do it correctly rather then be a cheap ass ricer

you alos have to look at the density of the corner, like in my box i used mdf for every corner, then foam filled behind it, and glassed over the top of it..

Im sure alot of people think that some people are just gods when it comes to design and building, but to be honest, we are just trying out some new ideas and using ones that have worked in the past.. alot ofthis is trial and error. You will never know if it works for your set-up till you try.

exactly what Ray said....

see ive never seen anyone besides me do that resin trick before so i just tried.  It works VERY well.  I dont know if the numbers are better or not but i know if you took a hammer to one of my corners from the outside it might come back at you before it goes thru.  In fact i know it wont go thru  ;)  Plus, ripping a 3" strip of MDF with 45's on each side is a pain in the ass.  I tried metal on the last box and like Ray, i filled the void behind it with expanding foam and went over the top with some resin.  I didnt glass it though, but i did do some elastomeric coating and then its also bedlined like the outside.  Everyone thinks im all good at this but a lot of the stuff you see is my first time. We dont always know if it helps or not but you dont get that 1/2 db by not trying ;)

true.. ya wood is fine i still do it when i have to.  Thats why i didn metal 45's (20 gauge i think) in the honda.....because i cant tip a wall on its sides while its in the car :)  You gotta do what you gotta do and mixin in some unique ideas never hurts (not always anyway)  :D

yeah thanks for the sites, but how close is too close for the port to be to the back of the box? for how big i'd like more port to be it's like 3-4 inches from the back of the box.

I think every box is different but for my box that is 48" deep, Shawn, if I remember correctly told me to leave 15" from the port to the back.
