raytard Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 my .02, people don't know right from wrong, not that they are stupid, but have been taught wrong ive had people who have been installing for years tell me im a retard for wasting the time for soldering 0g wire, cuz a crimp is stronger ive been told by people who were in the industry since before i was born (literally) and have been through all the training programs, selling and installing for years, convinced that 1ohm is competition only, fries amps, and cant be used for anything more than competitions ive had people tell me that 1 jl sub is louder than 2 15's no matter what ive seen people say there is no way my car could possibly have over 1000 watts in it, noone could ever have that much power ive seen people thouroughly convinced there is no way a single 18 holds the world record over multiple 15's ive had people tell me the only thing that blows a speaker is distortion, the only thing that blows it is too much power, both people who really know what they are doing and have been in the industry for years there are so many rumours and just general false conceptions out there, its hard to weed out what really is right and what really is wrong its hard to give good advice when we have trouble as an industry figuring out what is truth and we need a forum picture that says "UTFSN"..use the f*n search newb...so many things have been answered 9 times over, or liek those christmas list things, theres a half dozen of em Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC

Noobtastic14 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I've been told inverting the woofers will cut the power handling in half and blow them faster. i think its something that will always be around. duct_tape123 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 +168947613146849 for raytard!! I'll admit I'm not perfect, but I try to help where I can.
Forevrbumpn Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 hehe... Ive read a few of these threads before I stick to answering question about subwoofer's, issues, problems, whats good, and box design- No amps, decks, or electronic devices of any kind- Those are area I'am dusty in. I have installed for about 10 years, and worked 4 years with a speaker manufacturer. 1 year is warranty claims, testing customer returns, tear downs and reconing, 2 years assembly, and 1 year engineering and prototyping subwoofer's- I keep my limits with in that area, and box building. When it comes to power supplies, amps, all that I know- but Iam 50/50 with the rest of the crowd here. I'am like I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
raytard Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 thanks duct tape im sure im guilty of this too, but for real, we all have our own experiences and mentors and theories, throw in youtube and internet anonymity, and you get a hundred ways to skin a cat and everyone thinks their way is right. i really think we should start a highly regulated like knowledge base for atleast basic stuff, i know its impossible to compile stuff like"which box design is best for my kenwood subwoofer with boss amp", but atleast compile legit sources, like links to rulebooks for various associations, wire guage vs amperage draw, how to do the big 3, links to programs like amatts' box calculator, the re audio one and the entire "basics of car audio" website, everyone should know how to calculate wattage, how voltage drops or rises will increase power, compute resistance for parallel/series circuits, what causes noise, etc. even if it serves no other purpose than mods posting the link in response to a dumb question before locking the thread, just to make sure dumb information, sarcasm, and flaming on newer/less informed members never happens ive been working in the industry for about 2 years now, and have been into car audio for about 6 years now, and still have more to learn than i can even understad, there are some people here and in my daily life that i really respect for their knowledge (i know techs who can slap alarm/remote starts into any car made before 2005 without so much as glancing at a tech sheet, with just a pocketful of tools, in 45 minutes or so.) I have a lot to learn, and im sure even the guys here who have been doing this for decades will admit that as well Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC
banginAltima Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 and we need a forum picture that says "UTFSN"..use the f*n search newb...so many things have been answered 9 times over, or liek those christmas list things, theres a half dozen of em This is what bugs me and by no means am I flaming you ray. I can't help but feel the some people on here have gotten to a level were they feel like they don't have to answer questions. If you can take two seconds to post a use the search thingy, you can take the time to answer a question. So what if its been asked 5 million times.... If you have a love for this hobby or what ever you want to call it, answer the questions. I look for the higher level people, I want to know what they think. One of my first questions on here was answered by David, and the way he answered it i will never forget it. I think the big dogs need to get back to answering the basic questions, its what made this forum the best. An if your not going to answer the question don't post something stupid. If you build it, db's will come... NSPL World Record Holder Trunk 0-1800 watts---147.9 with 1722 clamped watts @ 40Hz(9-20-09). I have a lot to learn, and im sure even the guys here who have been doing this for decades will admit that as well You could do a whole section of how to do this and that. Step by step. however, if someone won't even try to search for answers they whats the point of having how-to's. There are plenty of good threads out there, and not even this site to find the answer to a question. Or at the very least ask a better question to the issue you are having. Case & point. I was having issues with 1 of my rc cars, went to 3 different site searched the boards and was able to fix my issue without ever posting once. i'm sure we can all do without the "what amp to power my sub" Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
Forevrbumpn Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 "what amp to power my sub" ^^^ damn those are so annoying I have a ritual called "terminator". Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
