RhinoSS
Whats up Everybody Friday a good friend of mine sold me a pair of JL 12W3 D4's he had in his Explorer. They sounded great when he had'em hooked up, So I had some interest in'em. I figured I could use these until I get the cash I needed for what I really want. Well on the way home I stopped at the store to get some things and I come to find my 2 1/2 yr old pushing in the dust caps on one of the subs. At first I was pissed seeing my lil' boy damageing my sub but I cant really hit him. Hitting my boy isnt gonna fix my sub, beside's, I got the subs & box for $50. Not trying to brag or nothing, but I had to jump on the deal. So now I'm wondering about 3 things: 1) try to fix the sub? (but how?) 2) find another 12w3d4 to replace the damaged one? or 3) Salvage the good sub and get another enclosure for a single 12 and ditch the old box & damaged sub? Any replies would be great Daniel
LSN2meBoom916
best luck i've had/seen is the same concept as pullin dents from a car body: either use something very TACKY like some high tack tape/fly paper or a very small suction cup if the effected area is flat & smooth enough for it to seal/grab. I'd try some tape/double sided tape or similar tacky material to try to pull it out w/ out doing more damage. good luck. Chris
Ive fixed dustcaps before, all I did was make a tiny hole with a pin, then bend the tip of the pin to make a 90 degree angle so you can stick it in there and pull it right up. A paperclip would work better for a plastic dustcap like those W3's though. Then just dab some clear superglue on the whole and youre set! (Next time take the kid in the store with ya though) EDIT: this is if the sticky paper doesnt work Edited February 24, 2007 by Chris Quote 4 15" FI Q D2's in 12 cubes tuned to 32hz 1- T1000.1bd's 3 Maxx 29 deep cycles 4 runs of 1/0 gauge -Big 3 -Trunk sealed off from the cabin Custom 15.8 dual-volt switching MLA module All in a CAR. LSN2meBoom916
Yup. Same as I was saying about it being just like autobody repair^^^. Like using a screw-tipped-dent puller. The autobody version usually hooks on the end of a slide hammer so you can jerk the dent out w/ help from the weight of the "slide". The downside is having to make that hole and then how visible it'd be afterward. Try the sticky/no hole method first and if that doesn't work you can try the other way and might invest in a hook/pick set which have L's and "?"hooks you can get in behind the dent and pull with. The paper clips are generally too pliable and will just unbend/straighten out under pressure unless it's a thin paper dustcap (pretty sure it's thicker vinyl on a JL sub) Quote COOGLE SAID:"bro thats how we got where we are... buy making messes ...... i still learn all the time you just gota be willing to ruck up some shit" "In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd." ~ Miguel de Unamuno"One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men, but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man" -Elbert Hubbard"A proud man can learn humility...but he will be proud of that too" ~I forget who.I'm far from perfect and I know it better than anyone, but I hope to be good at what I do, when I do it...Installs I've done:My Integra: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3161The Lexus : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=1535Law's Maxima: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5568&hl=Jeff's 2500HD: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5382&hl=Acura RSX-S: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3142Z-32 300zx: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=34602004 Civic 4dr: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=8190Trunk/Corner Box: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=16036&hl=1969 Chevy C-10: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=20319&hl=Seat-Back AMP-RACK How-to: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=9428&hl=Bunch of subs still for salehttp://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...l=lsn2meboom916"It's game night...we're playin......sex."~Quagmire"When disneyland started it was powered completely by orphan children running on treadmills to generate e-lectrissty…and today, them children are New York Yankees". ~Dale Gribble"Fill it with ice...then pour it up to the top of the ice...& Shut da Fu** up!" ~Urs truly.
