definition of dead short?

Dead short = Zero impedance. You wired both +s & -s together and then wired it to the amp. When wiring a subwoofer in series you only wire the - of one coil to the + of the other. When wiring parallel you wire both +s & -s together. Never EVER do you wire both coils + to -. It doesn't matter if you wired each coil to itself or to the other coil. When you wire both together it becomes a dead short. Dead short = fried amp.

Haha, yup, wired to 0 ohms. The impedance reading you got was probably the resistance of your probes + your speaker wire (in fact almost certainly - if you got 1.4 ohms with it wired in parallel (probably 0.7 ohm DCR) then your '0 ohm' reading is actually 0.7 ohms.

Basically you just powered a wire, just enough impedance for it to not protect... wires don't get box rise either

I think of it as the virgin losing the virginity technique

Just realized i've ran a bxi1606 at .35ohm (NET) daily and only popped it into protect a few times. granted once was a 139.9 bass race finals run- but impressive none the less.

Hope you like this new amp and learned your lesson from this little ordeal- happens to the best of us sometimes....
