Not impressed with current alternator technology :-(

I'm "definately" not going to to mention any names.... But I just don't think these 250 to 300 amp alternators are so freaking special, or worth as much as what's being charged for them.

All the pretty powder coating is nice, but I'd sooner have an ugly, factory looking alt..... in fact, with the same, run of the mill factory technology > but just bigger, and putting out more power !

Here's another thought; The alternator in my F150 is not too bad. I think it's like 140 amps, and they are pretty dirt cheap too. So, if I get "two" of these > lowly < factory alternators, and run a dual setup, now I'm making 280 amps !

In fact, I could probably get another one at a wrecking yard for $50, have my buddy rewrap it, and Bam !

Of course these aftermarket alternator places charge a ton for dual setup kits too. Maybe my alternator specialist friend could build a dual bracket as well.

Anyway, when I look at how complicated a car audio amplifier, or head unit is, I can totally see where my money is going.

Not so with these aftermarket alts :-(

PS, I think SM's quad alt setup looks REALLY cool, and obviously gets the job done....... But on the other hand, I don't see why a company couldn't easily make a single, large alt that puts out 1200 (or more) amps.

Issue with the 1200a is that to be if relatively small size to fit under hood, it would generate far more heat than it could dissipate.

you obviously dont know all the technicalities that go into an alt. if it were that easy...i'm sure it'd be done. even if it could...how many people actually need to run an alt that big? i'm sure cost would be WAY high. if they could even keep it sized down enough to fit under the hoods of most cars. and the way these alts work is the more amperage they put out, the less they put out at idle. so what do you think a 1200 amp alt would make at idle?

and they way you say it...you're making 280 amps...but at what RPM? high output alts are just that...high output.

There is simply not enough room in a alternator's case to make it put those kinda numbers. Like you said, most companies just put bigger parts in them. And do you know the kind of forces a 1200amp alternator would need to spin. There isn't a single automotive belt out there that would stand up to that load. You would have to run a few 5 or 6 groove belts.

But with these aftermarket companies, they put better quality parts in them. Sure you can get 2 factory units, but your factory unit was designed to run your factory car. Not to power your system, or charge your battery bank.

amperage output has to do with amount of windings. 1200A would be larger then the vehicle's engine and could probably only fit in a train.

Also, the more amperage, the harder it is to push, so you will need alot of horsepower to push that sucker.

Simply put, you need power to make power, you cannot create new power, you simply change its form.

Also, with higher amperage alts, cooling is one of the biggest factors. And a great deal of design goes into making aftermarket alternators run cool and reliable.

There are larger rectifiers and sometimes liquid cooling. Larger gauge wiring etc... than any factory type alternator.

Its like comparing a high end Alpine head unit to a OEM delco deck from a 94 Lumina.

Afetrmarket costs more because they have higher quality and thus higher priced parts than OEM.

OEM's are design to work just right with the factory electrical, thats it. You want more amperage, get something designed for that purpose.

If your not impressed with what is currently available, wait another 2 weeks or so... :D I guarantee you'll change your mind with what we have coming out.. I dont *think* you've ran any of our alternators to be able to say your not impressed with us, but if your saying it about what is widely available everywhere else, I agree 1000%... Rob

I stand behind this guy and his product 1000%,everything before his alts were simply not cutting it.Now that i have his alts ill never have anything else.The quality,performance,service,everything about them alts are doing the dam thing....thus the reason ill be runnin 3 more of them soon :P And rob. .can i get what you have coming out?? :P

not hatin, but am i wrong here it looks as if the amp is not grounded its hooked directly to the battery. it that the way it should be.
