harrypm82 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 anyone else got any ideas? look at my setup...im fully willing too take the blame but not till i know why...so it dont happen again when i get it fixed. also i buaght the amp from a reallllly reallllllyyy rich guy in a mansion for bout 950... it DID work... It is your fault for putting it on the sub box. This causes the amp to vibrate and resistors and mosfets start breaking inside. The amp will still run on fewer mosfet ic's, but they have to work harder and they keep on popping till the amp goes. It happened to me. Had my amp screwed to the false floor, but the DD's still shook it to bits. I did a demo the night b4 and everything was well. Drove to work the next morning at 1/4 volume and POP. I left it and when I went to get a sandwich for dinnertime when it happened again. The car filled with smoke and the amp stunk! Luckily I had my tools in the car! It is a DD Z2 amp btw and I had to get 8 mosfets and a few resistors replaced. Mounted the amp on a metal rack and no probs eversince. Good luck mate, I know the feeling!
Jat40 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 rockford does flat rate repairs, so you're not going to get it cheaper from them. You could try and get it fixed elsewhere, but there arent that many people I would trust to repair an amp that expensive other than the original manufacturer. Think about it this way. Coming back from RF it's will damn near be new, sure you could save half the money and fix it somewhere else, but if it blows again then you're right back spending the same money you could have spent from the get go. 01X has it right. I don't own any RF stock, eventho they went public a few years ago, but if you want it done right, send it to RF for repair. The amp will come back pratically brand new, and if I'm not mistaken, a new birth sheet.

EricR Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 I had my t2000 go up in smoke because i mounted it to my box...they really dont like vibrations. this EXACTLY i will mount an amp to my dash before i mount it to a box i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

bigbodylexus Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Okay I am guilty of both (giving someone a jump with my system on and mounting an amp to a box) but I have never had any issues and I have ran RF, Memphis (I used to have the 4KW MOJO), Kicker, Lanzar, hell the list goes on and I have never fried an amp in my life, wait I fried (2) Legacy amps in one week but that was on purpose. Forevrbumpn Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 I read the first page, not going to read the other pages, so I dont know if this has been said yet. 1) your batts, maybe drained from jumping your sisters car from night before 2) woke up in the morning, batteries not charged up yet, and just cranked your amp on dead batteries 3) ground the batteries in the back to chassis ground is a bad idea, it works, but slower charging, and not that reliable. So you might have killed your amp by not running ground from front to back, and the jump start the night before just a guess I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
