Early 90's car choices for under $4k?

So I'm looking for a vehicle from roughly late 80's to early 90's that offer decent stats from the factory. Whether it be lots of torque from a V8 or handling like a golf-cart.

So far I came up with these:

92-up Mercury Grand Marquis/Crown Vic.

90-94 Nissan Maxima SE (not gxe)

90-up DSM's (Talon, Laser, Eclipse)

82-92 BMW 3 Series E30

85-92 V Dub Gti MKII

89-94 Nissan 240SX

All I can think of right now... Any more?

I prefer to stay away from Mustangs and F-bodies...

My vote goes with DSM....if you can find an relatively unmodded one...without cancer/strut tower rust.

Didn't you used to own a DSM til it was totaled? If so in your opinion what are the pros and cons of the DSM's?

Yeah I owned one and my borther owns a built 6bolt one....capable of over 1000hp...

Nothing really best 4cyl to mod imo....parts are abundant lots of info....try and find one stock though previous mods are just asking for trouble...

This is my brother's built 6bolt swap I helped work on....

I was thinking about doing another DSM but I'm wanting some V8 power so that's why I'm going with an S10 with LS1 swap...

I'd say either the V dub or DSM. DSM's get fast for really cheap if you know what you are doing.

Mark2 GTI because they are extremely easy to work on and highly accessible parts either it be aftermarket or OEM. GAP is the place to go if you need OEM parts on the cheap.

Mark2 GTI's with a VR6 swap are popular and not hard to find.

Have fun and go here http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=2 and also use the SEARCH because 9/10 times your question has been answered already. :)

EDIT: Look into the Volkswagen Corrado VR6. Nice cars too.

VR6 sounds amazing and never gets old.

(mark3 GTI) same VR6 motor in the corrado. :D
