Im the same way, its strange but I am accustomed to hearing the noise of the fan to go to sleep, I have a much harder time going to sleep without it, even if it isnt hot I will just point it off into the room somewhere.

You shouldn't sleep with a fan blowing at your face at least, I hope you know. That is a good way to get Legionnaire's disease.

What does that have to do with catching the disease?

Because the disease is associated with stagnant air and water. So if you were to point it at your face, for example, then you increase your risk because you are inhaling whatever it is blowing directly into your open maw as you snooze.
