Pioneer Avic D3

Recommended Posts

So I dropped $800 and picked up this really badass head unit from Pioneer. Putting it in the car is a bitch, part of the dash behind the radio had to be knocked out, and i had to modify part of the dash that slides over the radio.

After cutting the dash cover, I placed the D3 mounting plate onto the radio, and then sandwiched the dash cover on top of that. Then I hotglued the cover and trim plate together. Then put in some cardboard damns and bondoglassed the gap. Pulled the damns and started sanding....

K here's the pics of the dash build:

Looks like you just used kitty hair.....you need to use something more flexible then that or or it will crack. It might also fall completely off one day while your bumpin because its a tough bond from that stuff to plastic. If it holds up, COOL....if not, hit me or Timay up for the good shit. (2 part urethane filler is what i used)

I did drill holes in the dash before I applied it, as sort of plug welds, and then kitty haired over the back of the holes too...But that was the second attempt, the first attempt cracked right off...I bodyfilled this and sanded it down, its looking better...If it takes a shit on me later on I'll hit you guys up for some real mud. This is lookin pretty sturdy though

  • 2 months later...

hey bro i just got a tahoe last week so im checking out all your shit for some ideas......any updated pics of your dash?

i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?
