I used to spend 2-4 weeks a year in Sarasota (on Long Boat) and never had an issue. dont expect them to do anything if someone steals your shit either. my car was broken into. we gave the cops the license plate number, screw driver and shirt they left in the car, and the trunk lid was covered in prints, I mean i know they are a csi tv show but they could do something. the next week they had 4 or 5 cars patrolling that parking lot, only to be looking for a guy putting fliers on cars... kinda bullshit huh.. I had cops take prints, but only when they broke into my garage and then they stole my shit. The other times I had to play detective and track the people down. One time we found the kid that took it, my friend called him (as he knew him I didn't know him at all barely) and told him he has 20 minutes to deliver my shit back where he found it or we would be coming by. The kid shows up with his one friend (who I DID know well) and starts to pull the stuff out. I told him, no... no no... You unpack it yourself. The kid had to lug a box with 3 12's in it up the driveway and into the garage. It was pretty funny. I don't think I've ever seen anyone that scared before, he was shaking so bad that he could barely carry the amps up the driveway. Needless to say I doubt he ever did anything like that again.
